England get the ball through the hands, but the final pass to Matty Ashton is short and the momentum is lost.

They keep the moves going though, now over to the left wing where Liam Marshall can make a break for the line...

    He gets there! Debut try!

Harry Smith adds another two with a fine conversion from the left wing, and England lead again.

One of the strengths of Samoa is to play at every opportunity, but it's also a weakness as they can overplay.

England now into the Samoan 10.

A loose ball is kicked away by Samoa, but the ball went backwards and the move is still alive.

Fifth phase, grubber kick attempted... Samoa touch down behind their own line. They will drop out, England will get another six sets.

72-72 in tackles so far. Both sides have had periods of desperate defence.

It has been a superbly entertaining match so far.

  5. 'Samoa asking questions'published at 14:55 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November

    England 2-6 Samoa

    John Kear
Wales head coach on BBC Radio 5 Live

That should have been a Samoa try. Shawn Blore had Jake Tago outside him, but elected to go himself. My word, they're asking some questions of England.

That's a get out of jail free card for England. Shawn Blore just needed to pass.

    England 2-6 Samoa

Fourth phase, Shawn Blore dodges and weaves, he is so close to the line - held up!

In the fifth phase Samoa probe again, but England hang on. The hosts need to survive this very tricky spell.

    England 2-6 Samoa

This is not the Samoa that England beat 60-6 in the World Cup group stage. This is the Samoa that beat England in the World Cup semi-final.

They look bang up for this and electric in attack. Roger Tuivasa-Sheck makes another tricky catch from a high kick to set up another Samoan attack.

Samoa look a completely different prospect today than the side who looked overwhelmed early doors last week.

They think they have scored again as Deine Mariner picks up a loose ball and powers over - but it had been knocked on by the jumper.

  10. 'Great try for Samoa'published at 14:51 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November

    England 2-6 Samoa

    John Kear
Wales head coach on BBC Radio 5 Live

That was very clever from Jarome Luai. Absolute quality. A little deft chip kick with a bit of backspin, and claimed tremendously well, one-handed. What skill from Shawn Blore to reel that ball in. That's a great try for Samoa. It's a high-quality game.

Brilliant pinpoint kick from Jarome Luai.

England defenders are in attendance, but it is super from Luai. This is what Samoa can do if you give them an opportunity.

  12. converted try

    Shawn Blore (13 mins)

A box kick from midfield by Jarome Luai, with no offsides, is perfectly gauged and allows the Samoan attackers to swarm.

Shawn Blore is the man to gather, get over the try line and ground before the gathering defenders can intervene.

The try is converted, game on!

Samoa got it right today regarding their Siva Tau. Unfortunately the Samoan discipline has already been shown as poor with a clear yellow card offence. The referee must not casually dish out warnings for foul play.

  17. PENALTYpublished at 10 mins

    England 0-0 Samoa

Ooh, big clash of heads there. Victor Radley, who has really been in the wars thus far, has blood pouring from his nose.

The high tackle means a penalty to England, and they will kick for goal.

  18. 'Great attacking'published at 14:44 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November

    England 0-0 Samoa

    John Kear
Wales head coach on BBC Radio 5 Live

Some great attacking rugby league from England, especially from Nsemba, who looks awesome. But what good defending from Samoa.

  19. 'Desperation from Mariner'published at 14:44 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November

    England 0-0 Samoa

    Brian Noble
Former Great Britain coach on BBC One

Desperation from Deine Mariner to clean it up.

You thought Matty Ashton would score that every day of the week.

    England 0-0 Samoa

This is relentless from England. Recovering possession, a rolling maul nearly carries the ball all the way over the Samoan line.

Fantastic last ditch defending thus far from the tourists though, as they manage to withstand another set before carrying teh ball to safety.
