Jersey Rugby Club's Michael Le Bourgeois has become the first home-grown player to sign a full professional contract with the club.

The outside half came through the club's youth development programme and was top scorer last season.

Le Bourgeois told BBC Radio Jersey: "It is everything to me. It is what I have worked for and I am just so happy I have achieved what I set out to do.

"It is just a big achievement for myself and a privilege and a honour."

Le Bourgeois continued: "I am looking forward to being known as the first Jersey full-time professional. It is an honour to achieve that.

"[The youth training scheme] made a lot of difference and it got me to where I am now. It made me prepare for professional rugby.

"There is a lot of hard work ahead. A lot of opportunities are coming to me every day and it is quite exciting really."
