Worcester Warriors must keep young players says Goode

Goode is the second highest points scorer in Premiership history

Worcester fly-half Andy Goode says it is vital the club hangs onto its young players if they itend to progress.

Goode, 31, starred as a second-half replacement in the 21-15 win against Gloucester on Saturday.

"Miles [Benjamin], Marcel [Garvey], Alex Grove, Matt Mullan and Ed Shervington are all out of contract," he told BBC Hereford and Worcester.

"We need to look at being a place where people are going to stay and build on, rather than chopping and changing."

The former England man came on as a half-time replacement for Joe Carlisle, and with a try, conversion and penalty swung the match in Worcester's favour.

Despite competing with Carlisle for a place in the starting XV, Goode insists there is no rivalry between the two.

"Joe is one of my best mates at the club, we live close to each other and chat on a regular basis," he continued.

"I don't feel I have something to prove when I come on. I've been on the bench lately but Joe has been playing well.

"The coach is the man who picks the team, and whenever you get the opportunity you need to fit into the team format and play as well as you can."

Worcester Cavaliers, the Warriors 'A' side, take on Bath United at Sixways on Monday, 9 January (19:30 GMT).
