Worcester: Gloucester's Carl Hogg to become Warriors head coach

Worcester Warriors have agreed a deal to make Gloucester's Carl Hogg their new head coach for next season.

The 43-year-old, who also held coaching roles at Leeds, London Welsh and Edinburgh, leaves Kingsholm after seven years with the club.

Ex-Scotland forward Hogg joined Gloucester in 2006 as academy boss, but recently held the forwards coach role.

He will form part of Warriors' recently appointed director of rugby Dean Ryan's new-look backroom staff at Sixways.

Forwards consultant Phil Vickery, assistant coach Nigel Redman, defence coach Phil Larder and attack consultant Mathieu Rourre have all left Sixways since Ryan replaced Richard Hill at the Premiership club,

Hogg will join up with Shane Howarth, after the former Wales international moved to Sixways as a backs coach from Wasps.

"Carl has been a valuable and supportive colleague during my first season as director of rugby at Gloucester and I thank him for giving his all to our campaign this season," Gloucester director of rugby Nigel Davies said.

"His depth of knowledge and the level of detail he brings to training have been exceptional.

"Our appreciation of what Carl has done for this club over seven years is shown in that we respect his wish to take forward a new challenge as a Premiership head coach at a key time in his coaching career.

"From that perspective, we would never stand in his way and he leaves with our thanks and best wishes."

As Hogg still has a year left on his contract at Gloucester, Worcester have paid compensation for his services.
