Kurtley Beale fined for 'offensive' picture text message

Kurtley Beale has been fined £24,600 for sending an offensive picture message to an Australian Rugby Union (ARU) female team official.

The 25-year-old versatile back had been suspended following the allegation but avoided a serious punishment which could have terminated his contract.

Beale admitted sending the message to business manager Di Patston on 9 June.

But the code of conduct tribunal did not find evidence Beale sent a second more offensive text and photograph.

Beale, capped 47 times by Australia, was suspended for the Rugby Championship matches earlier this month against Argentina and New Zealand while he awaited the outcome of the hearing.

The ARU confirmed he is now eligible for selection.

Having apologised to Patston, who subsequently resigned, Beale said: "I'm relieved there is no termination and I can now continue playing rugby."

"I have had a fair hearing and will work to regain the respect of my team-mates, fans and the general Australian community.

"I'm extremely proud to represent my country, and I will work hard to ensure my behaviour reflects the honour and privilege of playing for Australia at all times, on and off the field."
