Guernsey RFC still aiming for top four despite points deduction

Guernsey are still aiming for a top-four finish in National Three London, despite being docked five points.

They lost the points they gained in their win over Amersham after a mix-up over prop Leyton Batiste's suspension and are now bottom of the league.

"I explained this to the guys the other day about what was happening," director of rugby Jordan Reynolds said.

"Most of the comments coming back were saying that a top-four spot was just going to be even more sweeter."

Reynolds confirmed the club will not appeal against the Rugby Football Union's decision and will instead look to focus on their remaining 17 games, with promotion to a new look fourth-tier of English rugby their target.

Reynolds has struggled to get his strongest side on the pitch of late after a number of injuries to first-team regulars, but regards the situation as "character building".

"It's an unfortunate set of circumstances, but it's happened now and we're just ready to try and move on and pick up some wins in the next couple of weeks," he said.

"There's so many different ways to challenge people in sport and you've got to push yourself to that bar every time.

"At the moment we're taking a massive hit, but the best thing about it is we're not an individual sport."

He added: "We're a big club, we're looking after each other and making sure we stay positive.

"It would be easy to pack up our bags and leave, and just forget about it, but we know we've still got a lot of rugby to play, and we're confident we can get ourselves out of trouble and start pushing up the league in the new year."
