Jersey were in front for long periods but remain without a win since early November

Jersey suffered a sixth straight loss as Yorkshire Carnegie's improvement in form continued at St Peter.

The islanders started brightly and Mark Foster's try gave them an 8-0 lead but Carnegie were in front at the break after a penalty try.

Lewis Robling's try put the hosts back ahead before his centre partner Drew Locke was sent to the sin bin.

Carnegie made the man advantage count when Chris Walker crashed over from a maul late on for the winning score.

Contrasting fortunes of Jersey and Carnegie

Jersey are without a win in any competition since 8 November when they beat Plymouth Albion, while Carnegie are now unbeaten in five games.

Jersey had started the game with real pace and purpose, dominating the early possession and territory.

Jonny Bentley's penalty gave them a deserved lead and winger Foster crossed the whitewash in the corner to give his side the reward for their early play.

But the visitors improved as the half wore on and came away from their first real visit to their opponent's 22 metres with seven points, when a maul crashed to ground near the line and referee Craig Maxwell-Keys awarded the penalty try.

Harry Leonard's successful penalty just before the break put the Leeds-based club ahead for the first time.

The momentum was to switch again though and a period of pressure from Jersey ended when Robling touched down in the left corner.

With just over ten minutes remaining the islanders were reduced to 14 men when Locke was show yellow for an off-the-ball hit on winger Jonah Holmes.

It was, perhaps, the moment that decided the game as Carnegie kicked for the corner and then drove for the line with Walker credited with the try at the bottom of a pile of bodies.

Leonard added a superb conversion and Jersey were unable to find a response in the closing minutes.

The win takes Yorkshire Carnegie into the top half of the Championship table, while Jersey have the same number of points but are in seventh spot.
