Italy international Tommaso Benvenuti has joined Championship leaders Bristol from Perpignan in an 18-month deal.

The 24-year-old can play at centre, wing or full-back and has won 30 caps for his country.

Benvenuti played for Treviso before moving to Perpignan in 2013, where he has scored three tries in 20 games.

"Tommaso is a talented young player, capable of performing consistently at the very highest level," said director of rugby Andy Robinson.

"He arrives with a strong pedigree, having played European Cup rugby for Treviso and played for Perpignan in the Top 14.

"We're looking forward to welcoming Tommaso into the squad. His experience and physical presence will help drive our performances."
