Bristol have signed Wales international Gavin Henson from local rivals Bath.

Utility back Henson, capped 32 times by his country, will move to the current Championship leaders at the end of the season on a one-year deal.

The 32-year-old arrived at Bath from London Welsh in the summer of 2013 and has made 15 starts and 19 appearances from the bench.

However, he has not played for the Premiership club since 22 November, after a spell out through injury.

Bristol have already secured the signatures of Premiership duo Tom Varndell and Marc Jones for next season, from Wasps and Sale respectively.

Henson will link up again with coach Sean Holley, who he worked under at Ospreys, and becomes the 12th Welshman in Bristol's first-team squad for next season.

"Gavin's all-round rugby ability will enhance the way that we are trying to develop our game. He's a good fit for us," said director of rugby Andy Robinson.

"Gavin's performances have been consistently good and he has worked hard. He's shown professionalism and a positive attitude.

"Coupled with his vast experience at the highest level, Gavin's arrival will provide us with nous and versatility in our young and exciting backline."
