Liam Williams should start at full-back for Wales' Six Nations game against Scotland on Sunday, according to former captain Gwyn Jones.

Wales lost 21-16 to England on Friday, when Williams was a temporary substitute for wing George North.

"He's one of those players who can impact the game at all times," said ex-Llanelli and Cardiff flanker Jones.

"We've got to have some creativity about us because we can look very flat at times, and Williams will give that."

Jones said Leigh Halfpenny should move from full-back to wing in place of Alex Cuthbert, but North should stay on the wing if fit.

Williams, 24, made his 19th Wales appearance as wing North suffered concussion following the first of two blows to the head.

North is undergoing tests, but Wales are confident he will be fit for the trip to Murrayfield.

Jones said Wales coach Warren Gatland must give Williams a chance during the Six Nations.

"Is this guy going to be one of our star players come the World Cup?" Jones asked on Scrum V.

"We'll only know that if we play him at full-back in these matches which mean something.

"I'd drop Cuthbert because George North, if he's fit, is a better rugby player."

Wales in the 2015 Six Nations

Friday, 6 February: Wales 16-21 England

Sunday, 15 February: v Scotland, Murrayfield

Saturday, 28 February: v France, Paris

Saturday, 14 March: v Ireland, Cardiff

Saturday, 21 March: v Italy, Rome

Williams was man of the match when Wales and Scotland last met in 2014, scoring one of seven tries in an outstanding attacking display after full-back Stuart Hogg was sent off. Halfpenny missed that game because of injury.

Scotland lost 15-8 to France in Paris in their tournament opener and Jones hopes Wales do not repeat their tactical kicking mistakes against coach Vern Cotter's side.

"We kicked seven times and the best we got was one knock-on from England. They won all the other balls," said Jones.

"And yet in the last 10 minutes when we're chasing the game, we do it another twice."
