Championship: Plymouth Albion 18-17 Jersey
- Published
Plymouth Albion boosted their hopes of survival in the Championship with a gutsy 18-17 win over Jersey.
Jack Arnott's early try put the hosts ahead, but Ryan Hodson levelled.
Rhys Oakley's score gave Albion a 12-7 half-time advantage, before Declan Cusack's penalty extended the lead soon after the break.
Unconverted tries from Samisoni Fisilau and Aaron Penberthy put Jersey back in front, but a second Cusack penalty sealed the win for Albion.
The result, coupled with a loss for Moseley at London Scottish, means Albion are three points from safety at the bottom of the division.
Arnott gave the home side a dream start as the dual-registered Exeter winger picked up the ball after a fifth-minute mistake by Fisilau and raced in from 60 metres out.
But Jersey's pack hit back, forcing Hodson over for his fifth try of the season nine minutes later.
The islanders had Nick Campbell sin-binned for a high tackle after 26 minutes, and Albion capitalised as Oakley went over, although Cusack failed to convert.
Jersey were further frustrated as they failed to come away with any points after a sustained period of pressure at the end of the half.
Cusack used the strong wind to power over a penalty after the restart, but Jersey hit back as first Fisilau went over, and then Penberthy crossed after good work from the forwards.
But with neither try converted Jersey were just two points ahead and Cusack capitalised with seven minutes to go.
He kicked a long-distance penalty after Jersey were caught offside to secure a rare win for the financially-troubled club.
