Wales wing George North wants to "reward the trust" of head coach Warren Gatland when they face Ireland in the Six Nations on Saturday.

Gatland challenged North to up his game earlier this year, while he rested the wing against Scotland as a precaution.

But after his recall for the win against France, North wants to repay Gatland for his faith.

"Hopefully on Saturday I can push forward again and reward his trust," he said.

"For me, it's never a good point if your head coach is not happy with you and that's when you start getting dropped.

"But I feel Paris was a step forward for me, back to where I want to be in a Welsh jersey."

North will win his 48th Welsh cap as part of an unchanged team to face Ireland at the Millennium Stadium.

Ireland are top of the Six Nations table having won their three games so far, and they have beaten Wales in their previous two meetings.

But Wales, who have two victories from their three fixtures, would still have a chance of winning the title if they overcome Ireland on Saturday.

And North believes the continuity of an unchanged team can boost Welsh hopes of claiming just a third win against Ireland in Cardiff since 1983.

"[It will help] massively I think. We got better in Paris and hopefully we can push on better this weekend," he added.

"Ireland in the last couple of years have been very good at finishing games off, they've taken their chances.

"We have just lacked that composure when it comes to the crunch."
