Cornish Pirates' Canadian forward Aaron Carpenter has impressed boss Ian Davies after taking on the captaincy.

Carpenter was made skipper in last week's British and Irish Cup win at Nottingham and kept the armband for the Championship clash with Bedford.

"He got a lot of plaudits from me because I thought he captained very well and played very well," he said.

"He's captain again this week, which helps us spread that leadership as well," Davies added to BBC Cornwall.

The Pirates go into the game bottom of the league, but have been buoyed after two successive wins in the British and Irish Cup.

"We've probably been making less errors and we were compounding those errors by making another error very quickly after it," Davies added.

"But other than that we've not really changed what we're doing, we're still working hard at set pieces, we've been a bit more consistent there."
