Bill Dempsey: Jersey chairman to step down at end of the season

Jersey chairman Bill Dempsey will step down at the end of the season having seen the club rise from the fifth to second tier of English rugby.

Mark Morgan has been made vice-chairman as a potential replacement.

"It's no longer a bit of a jolly, turn up every couple of months, do a meeting for 15 minutes and go to the bar, have a pint; it's a business," said Dempsey.

"As such we need to get someone in - with Mark Morgan coming in he would be the perfect (replacement)."

Former club captain Morgan made more than 200 appearances for Jersey's first team, including around 40 games as captain and seven Siam Cups.

Dempsey, chairman for eight years, continued to BBC Radio Jersey: "Mark is someone who played in the 1980s and had been working with Citibank in Singapore for 25 years. He returned to Jersey, retired, he's got time on his hands, a rugby background and commercially very astute.

"I thought the time was right that Mark would actually start after the AGM next June. As a members club, he would have to be voted in by members and anyone be entitled to stand against him as a member."
