British & Irish Cup: Carpenter 'classy act' in Cornish Pirates win

Cornish Pirates boss Ian Davies says Canada international Aaron Carpenter was a "very classy act" in their 35-17 win at London Welsh, which booked a home British & Irish Cup quarter-final.

The forward scored one of Pirates' five tries to help them finish top of Pool Four on 23 points.

"He's been phenomenal since he came back from the World Cup," said Davies.

"They're (Carpenter and Laurie McGlone) huge - they've been around the league for a long time."

Pirates have now beaten their Championship rivals three times this season and won nine of their last 10 matches.

Tyler Gendall ran in two tries, with Adam Jamieson and Tom Hendrickson also going over to ensure a tie in Penzance in the last eight of the competition.

"He didn't play a huge amount in the World Cup, which he was disappointed about, but Aaron Carpenter is a very classy act," Davies told BBC Radio Cornwall.

"The old truck Laurie McGlone just keeps going and came off absolutely exhausted - he was dragging himself off the pitch because he'd given everything.

"(The home quarter-final) will be brilliant. It's financially brilliant for us, as well as the fact that we like to play at home."
