Launceston disappointed after narrowly missing out on first win

Launceston boss Jimmy Tucker says his side are "down" after narrowly missing out on their first win of the season.

His side lost 20-17 to Old Elthamians, having led 17-7 just before half time.

"We were so near, but so far, especially in a season where we're desperately looking for that one victory," Tucker told BBC Cornwall.

"We're desperately disappointed. The players are down, we're down. Sometimes it's as tough to lose by a narrow margin as it is by a bigger margin."

Launceston have lost 17 of their 18 games this season, with the club's only positive result coming in a draw with Southend in Tucker's first game in charge back in November.

"Effort levels were right up there, and I'm really pleased with the first-half performance in challenging conditions," added Tucker, who says he has already resigned himself to relegation this season.

"We just struggled to get the territory in the second half to finish the game off.

"The boys are really resilient, they want to win as much as anybody. Training sessions are upbeat and positive, players are hungry and there's no lack of morale."
