Steve Larkins unsurprised by Redruth success this season

Redruth's win at Chinnor brought them onto 69 points, three more than they scored all last season

Redruth boss Steve Larkins says his team's success in National Two South this season is not unexpected.

The Reds' 26-13 win at Chinnor on Saturday meant they surpassed last season's points total with 10 games left to play.

"I'm not surprised by our form this season," Larkins told BBC Cornwall.

"Right from pre-season we got the right players and quality into the squad, they enjoy each other's company and play for each other," he added.

Redruth have added to their squad with former Plymouth Albion hooker Tom Cowan-Dickie signing last summer and dual-registered youngsters Jack Maunder and Luke Jones joining from Exeter and the Cornish Pirates.

The Reds have won six of their 11 away games this season, the same number of victories on the road as their last two seasons combined.

"We have to travel a lot of miles and we left at quarter past seven to travel up there and to perform like that was pretty impressive," Larkins said after the Chinnor win.

"To have that kind of experience has strengthened the squad this year and now we enjoy going away from home."
