Peter Horne will start for Scotland against Australia after Alex Dunbar was ruled out of their final autumn Test.

Centre Dunbar failed to pass HIA protocols after sustaining a head injury against New Zealand last week.

Uncapped Edinburgh centre Phil Burleigh has been added to the replacements following Horne's promotion.

Wing Sean Maitland, prop Simon Berghan, second-row Grant Gilchrist and number eight Ryan Wilson had also come into the starting line-up.

Zander Fagerson, Ben Toolis and Cornell du Preez drop to the bench, while wing Lee Jones misses out.

Glasgow Warriors' Horne came on as a replacement in the two previous autumn Tests against Samoa and New Zealand.

Maitland was called into the squad on Monday along with Fraser Brown after the pair recovered from injury.

And the Glasgow Warriors hooker is named among the replacements for the match at Murrayfield.

Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend said: "Fraser Brown and Sean Maitland - these are experienced players who have played very well for Scotland and it's great that they are available for such a big game."

Leicester Tigers back row Luke Hamilton was ruled out after being taken off with an ankle injury after coming on to make his debut against New Zealand.

Fagerson, unlike Dunbar, came through his head injury assessment to be named on the bench, while flanker Hamish Watson and prop Darryl Marfo both shook off knocks to retain their starting spots.

Glasgow, who lead Pro14 Conference A, have eight players in the starting XV, with in-form Edinburgh providing five starters.

"In terms of cohesion, in the front row, Simon Berghan starts alongside the two Edinburgh front-rows and Zander [Fagerson]on the bench alongside two Glasgow front-rows will help from a scrummaging point of view," said Townsend.

"Grant Gilchrist - we feel his form merits a start. He has been playing really well for Edinburgh.

Coach Gregor Townsend says Grant Gilchrist (centre) deserves his start

"Defensively, he has been outstanding this season and he did very well when he came on last week.

"So we were pleased with how the second-rows played last week, but we felt Grant deserves that start."

Scotland, who defeated Samoa before losing to the All Blacks, have enjoyed recent success against the Wallabies and beat them in the summer in Townsend's second match in charge.

"This is the third and final game of our autumn series and the players are looking forward to ending it on a high," he added.

"Last weekend's game was a proper Test match - intense, competitive and full of drama.

"Unfortunately, we just fell short of our goal, and were disappointed with the loss, but take confidence going into the game against Australia."

Scotland team

Hogg, Seymour, H Jones, Horne (all Glasgow), Maitland (Saracens), Russell, Price (both Glasgow), Marfo, McInally, Berghan, Gilchrist (all Edinburgh), J Gray (Glasgow), Barclay (Scarlets, capt), Watson (Edinburgh), Wilson (Glasgow).

Replacements: Brown, Bhatti, Fagerson (all Glasgow), Toolis, Du Preez (both Edinburgh), Pyrgos (Glasgow), Burleigh (Edinburgh), McGuigan (Sale).

Analysis

Colin Gregor, former Scotland Sevens captain: "I think Ben Toolis and Lee Jones will feel very hard done-by.

"When you run New Zealand so close, to be dropped - Lee Jones is out the squad completely - is a real shame.

"He was looking very sharp over the last couple of games, but Sean Maitland is a quality winger that's come in.

"It is definitely a strong-looking squad again."
