Cornish Pirates winger Callum Sirker has agreed a new one-year deal.

The 24-year-old former England Sevens player moved to the Mennaye last summer from Wasps and scored 10 tries in 18 appearances last season.

He becomes the 17th player to agree a new contract at the Championship club for next season.

But back row Matt Bolwell, 27, is to leave the club after nine years with Pirates recruiting Cardiff forward Alex Everett as a replacement.

"Callum is, as we have seen, a potent finisher - someone with the ability to score those special tries," Pirates joint head coach Gavin Cattle said.

"Like all players there are, naturally, areas of his game to work on and with further development he'll become a still better player," he added to the club website., external

Bolwell, who was named player of the year this season, has made 129 appearances for the Pirates in a career that has been hampered by a number of injuries.

He is leaving the club to move to London for work and will join National One side Rosslyn Park.

"Matt is a wonderful player. Injures during his career have proved deeply frustrating and I feel that if he had better luck and stayed fit in his younger years then he would have gone and done some incredible things," said Pirates joint head coach Alan Paver.

"If you watch him week in and week out you see a phenomenal player on the pitch and, in my mind, he is one of the best all round players that I have ever had the pleasure to coach."

Meanwhile Everett, 25, has agreed a one-year deal at the Mennaye.

The Kent-born forward began his career at Saracens' academy and joins from Welsh Premiership side Cardiff, where he has played for the past two years.

He has also featured for Cardiff's United Rugby Championship side, coming on as a replacement against Toulouse in the European Champions Cup earlier this season.

"Alex is a hugely physical man, a real handful with a good pedigree, who is just the sort of back row player we are looking for," said Pirates coach Louis Tonkin.

"Very physical both sides of the ball, he has gained real experience with Cardiff RFC and played for Cardiff Rugby."
