Cornish Pirates have signed fly-half Bruce Houston on a one-year deal.

The 24-year-old is an ex-Ireland youth international and had recently been playing for Scottish side Heriot's.

He comes in to add depth to the Pirates at 10 after the summer departures of Harry Bazalgette and Arwel Robson.

"There is a possibility that Iwan Jenkins will be recalled to Exeter at some stage, which would leave us with just one recognised fly-half in Tom Pittman," said coach Gavin Cattle.

"Bruce has a strong kicking game, and a natural ability to challenge defences with ball in hand.

"Also ambitious, he is relishing the opportunity to play in the Championship."
