Cornish Pirates have named forward Alex Everett as their new captain.

The 28-year-old back-row takes over from long-serving skipper John Stevens who is still returning to fitness after a serious knee injury suffered in the opening game of last season.

Everett moved to the Mennaye in 2022 from Cardiff and has scored nine tries in 69 appearances for the club.

"He has been a standout player for us in the past few seasons," joint-head coach Gavin Cattle told the club website.

"He leads by example with his actions, is calm and has good relationships with the officials, so it was the obvious choice as John Stevens works his way back to full fitness in the new year."

Everett added: "John has left some huge shoes to fill but I think the playing group is in a really good place to use last year as a springboard to challenge at the top end of the table."
