    South Africa can let rip.

They've struck and they've taken their opportunities.

There's not been multiple phases, they've used the ball well and got to the edge and strike when the opportunities have been there.

We've seen slight weaknesses in Wales' squad but South Africa are very accurate.

The referee is having a word with James Botham here.

South Africa have a penalty and they have lineout ball from five metres out.

Wales knock the ball on, and now it's a South Africa scrum.

    The pressure is relentless.

That's all come from the kick receipt, it's a good kick from Aphelele Fassi and a good take from Sam Costelow but South Africa just come with the counter ruck.

They fed it to the blind side to Kurt-Lee Arendse and then back inside to Eben Etzebeth.

It's all a little bit too easy isn't it?

This looks ominous. South Africa have been rampant in the opening exchanges.

The Springboks spoke about a complete performance for their final match of 2024 and they are backing those pre-match sentiments up.

The locks have scored the tries with Eben Etzebeth and Franco Mostert now boasting a combined total of 209 caps between them.

The Springboks have such speed at the breakdown and they're winning the counter-rucks. That's the second breakdown they've targeted and turned over.

Both of South Africa's second rows are now over.

Sam Costelow took the high ball, but South Africa win it back on the counter-ruck, the ball goes through the hands and Kurt-Lee Arendse sets up Eben Etzebeth.

    The conversion is missed.

Yeah just a numbers game, South Africa played to the space.

You've got to watch De Allende, how well he straightens the line on the outside, just created the space on the edge for South Africa.

Good decoy runners from South Africa, good play and good hands and what a line from Mostert.

Sam Costelow has had a decent start, couple of nice early touches, a little half-break, a nice little kick for Rio Dyer and crucially diving to stop the ball.

    Wales 0-0 South Africa

South Africa have just had their first visit to Wales' 22, it's a powerful break from Wilco Louw.

But Wales come away with the penalty, with James Botham and Nicky Smith combining well to win turnover ball.

I feel nervous here today, it's a big task ahead of these boys but I'm excited for the opportunity they've got and a good way to kick off the game.

Sam Costelow has had a lively start.

He puts in a crucial tackle on Jess Kriel on the wing.

The danger passes for Wales, but we go back for a South Africa penalty for a tackle in the air.

It has been a long year for Welsh rugby with 10 defeats in the calendar year.

Few expect that to change today against the world champions but just for a moment before kick-off there seemed to be a little hope here.

    You can't lose that hope.

Karl Dickson (RFU) is the man in charge today.

He blows his whistle and Ben Thomas gets us under way in Cardiff.

Wales are playing in their white kit today, with South Africa in their traditional gold and green.

Anything is possible but a full 80-minute performance is what is required to make that [win] a possibility, so I hope that the boys go out there today and don't feel too much pressure like the first two games.

I think the expectation of Wales was on them like it was for Fiji and Australia, but I don't think anyone is expecting them to win today.

Will Rowlands always looks like somebody with potential to be a British and Irish Lions player.

Someone else who is injured is Tomos Williams - Wales' best player leading into the autumn but unfortunately he's injured and it's difficult to look past that at the moment.

There's a long way to go, a lot of water to go under the bridge until next summer.

Will Rowlands says Wales' players have to accept responsibility for the "brutal situation" they find themselves in.

"We are all very aware we are the players, ultimately, we are the people who are playing the game and who control whether we win or lose," said Rowlands.

"You need good coaching input, support staff, you need everything else around it, but ultimately, the buck falls with us."

Racing 92 lock Rowlands also says South Africa are not unbeatable.

"I have belief if we play well we can beat South Africa, but having a good performance will give us something to build on moving forward," he said.

"They are a fantastic side, and are world champions for a reason, but there are guys in our team who have beaten them before."
