FT: Sharks 24-24 Munster (AET - Sharks win 6-4 on pens)

Phew! What an incredible evening of rugby. Munster are beaten in the cruellest of fashions after a stunning game at Kings Park. Peter O'Mahony, Conor Murray and Stephen Archer bow out after the quarter-final exit on a place-kicking shootout.

The Sharks go on to Pretoria to take on the Bulls in an all-South African semi-final while Leinster will host Glasgow. Both of those games take place next Saturday.

From us, thank you for joining us this evening for a hectic game of rugby. Goodnight.

  2. Beirne 'massively proud' of Munsterpublished at 20:23 British Summer Time 31 May

FT: Sharks 24-24 Munster (AET - Sharks win 6-4 on pens)

Munster captain Tadhg Beirne speaking to Premier Sports:

"I'm massively proud of the boys. Credit to the Sharks, they came back into it after we had a bit of a foothold but I couldn't ask for any more from the boys.

"It really hurts to lose like that but they are a quality side loaded with internationals. We fought to the bitter end and it is a credit to each and everyone here.

"It's going to be a weird place next season without the lads who are leaving. They bleed Munster and it is gutting to end it like this."

Sharks 24-24 Munster (AET - Sharks win 6-4 on pens)

Bradley Davids - brought on late in extra time like a striker in football for a shootout - nails his second kick meaning that Rory Scannell's sole miss is enough to see Munster exit.

What a tough way for the men in red to see their season end and see so many legendary players bow out. What a stunning game of rugby but a cruel blow for Munster.

Rory Scannell nails his second kick but Bradley Davids has a chance to win it here.

  5. Penaltypublished at 20:09 British Summer Time 31 May

    Sharks 24-24 Munster

Incredibly we will have a place-kicking competition in Durban! Just the third time in professional rugby history and Munster were involved in one of the others.

They lost that day to Toulouse in a Champions Cup quarter-final in May 2022... This is the first ever shootout in URC history.

    Wonderful drama!

    Sharks 24-24 Munster

Aphelele Fassi with a perfect up-and-under that he takes himself but James Venter knocks on.

Just a minute to go or else we will have a place kicking competition!

    Sharks 24-24 Munster

Unsurprisingly, Tadhg Beirne is down with cramp before the scrum. What a shift he has put in as always.

    Sharks 24-24 Munster

More superb Munster defence as they hold up Hanro Jacobs on their 22. However, I'm unsure if they will be happy with that given the pressure their scum is under!

    Four minutes left...
