  1. converted try

Converted try FRANCE 30-16 Scotlandpublished at 57 mins

    Thomas Ramos

That might be the telling blow.

Scotland are marched backwards again at a maul, and when France go wide, Thomas Ramos cruises into a gap and goes over to score his side's third try of the night.

He converts his own score and the lead is up to 14.

Scotland drag the French ball-carrier into touch, but Matthew Carley comes back for a penalty.

Finn Russell has a wry smile on his face, but his protests make no difference.

    France 23-16 Scotland

An ominous France maul marches its way into Scotland's 22.

The visitors need a big defensive set here.

The breathtaking pace of this game shows no sign of letting up.

Damian Penaud dinks a kick over the top for himself and forces Duhan van der Merwe to hare back and collect the ball.

My laptop might break at this rate.

Jamie Ritchie does superbly to get hold of the ball at the breakdown and win Scotland a penalty, but the visitors miss touch and France are on the attack again.

Russell is finding all sorts of space in the French defence.

The angles of running are lovely, the strings Russell pulls.

It's the right call to take three points because you expect to get possession back from the restart.

It's about how the players react now.

    Finn Russell

A decision goes Scotland's way this time as France's stretched defence coughs up a penalty.

Finn Russell nails it off the tee.

Rugby's strength is also it's weakness. If you're a Scotland player you quite often must be crying out inside as to why certain decisions are given for or against you. However, unlike football etiquette, rugby dictates the referee and officials are beyond question. The Mauvaka decision in particular must be genuinely angering.

That's the strategy. Use your bench. It's a huge call to take captain Greg Alldritt out but it shows Fabien Galthie wants more.

You are asking from something from your bench.

    Jim Hamilton

It's weird to see Greg Alldritt coming off but with Baille, Marchand and Meafou coming on, this was the worry for Scotland - whether they could deal with the second half and the power coming off the bench.

Questions need to be answered now.

France go to their scary bench.

Six of the seven forwards among the replacements are on - Julien Marchand, Cyril Baille, Dorian Aldegheri, Emmanuel Meafou, Oscar Jegou and Anthony Jelonch.

Perhaps the most disappointing thing for Scotland was they had started the second half brilliantly.

They were playing fast, loose, exciting rugby and knocking France backwards.

    Until they weren't.

The only way Scotland are going to win is to keep it loose, get guys running different lines, keep it live.

They're going to make errors but it's the only way to beat this team. If you play like that, you have the potential to lose a try like that one.

    Louis Bille-Biarrey

    A suckerpunch for Scotland.

They were chucking the ball around with real confidence, but Damian Penaud pounces on the tiniest hint of an error, and when he releases Louis Bielle-Biarrey there's only one outcome.

Over go the extras, and the lead is back up to 10 points.

Dan: Fair play Scotland for still being in this game. France away is a difficult enough game, but to add to that the officials seemingly want to punish Scotland every chance they get.
