    It's been entertaining.

The Spanish are relentless. Ireland have been a little bit wasteful at times.

What a thrilling first half in Northampton! Ireland have the bonus point but that does not tell the entire tell of the tape as Spain have been superb.

They had the game level at 12-12 midway through the half but Ireland have responded well to lead by two scores at the break.

    Anna McGann

The tried and tested method works again for Ireland as the forwards batter up the middle before unleashing the backs to do their thing.

Aoife Dalton runs a nice inside line off of Dannah O'Brien who unleashes Stacey Flood. The full back could perhaps finish herself but unselfishly puts Anna McGann into the corner for a bonus point try.

O'Brien's conversion is wide but Ireland have their twelve point lead back right on the break.

Spain almost steal another Irish lineout but a knock on gives Ireland a scrum on the five metre line. Brittany Hogan and Grace Moore almost get over but, eventually the ball is moved under the posts and Eve Higgins crashes over.

Dannah O'Brien adds the simple extras and Ireland lead again with five minutes until the break.

    Marieta Roman (con Argudo)

Well, well, well... Spain's momentum sees them get the maul rolling and over in the corner goes hooker Marieta Roman. Amalia Argudo's conversion is superb and we are level.

We really have a game on our hands now.

  14. Replacementpublished at 12:30 British Summer Time 31 August

    Ireland 12-5 Spain

That knock for Sam Monaghan was obviously worse than she was letting on as she is replaced. Awful news for her and Ireland and we hope it is only a short-term miss.

Not a bad replacement though as last week's Player of the Match Brittany Hogan is on.

Spain aren't going to let up. They've been the cause of much Ireland heartbreak before and that's what they'll be thinking about today.

  16. try

Try Ireland 12-5 Spainpublished at 12:26 British Summer Time 31 August

    Claudia Perez-Perez

Really patient play from Sain after a brilliant steal at the lineout. Prop Eider Garcia-Fuentes is inches from the line from a pick-and-go before they move it out the hands and Perez-Perez goes over in the corner.

Spain deserve that and, despite Amalia Argudo's missed conversion, they are right back in this. Any thoughts of a cake walk for Ireland are absolutely misplaced.

  20. try

    Amee-Leigh Costigan

Ireland's maul gets rolling but the forwards know when the time is right to release it to the backs and they do the rest.

The ball goes through the hands out left immaculately and Amee-Leigh Costigan dives over in the corner. O'Brien pulls her effort off the tee to prove she is human after all!
