Summary

  1. Postpublished at 18mins

    Toulouse 19-7 Ulster

Almost the bonus-point score already for Toulouse.

In the same corner where he squeezed home for the first, this time Lebel just runs out of room.

Ulster knock-on when trying to clear, however, and Toulouse have the scrum about eight metres out.

You can't take your eyes off this one and we've a fourth try in the opening quarter of an hour.

There's been plenty for forwards enthusiasts to enjoy so far with Toulouse's power game in the tight exchanges giving them a real advantage.

Their third is off the line-out once again, with Emmanuel Meafou the one to crash over on this occasion.

My word, this has been a boring start.....

Toulouse have been electric going forward, but that's a good response by Ulster.

    James McCormick (con Nathan Doak)

    And the try will stand!

The referee couldn't quite see the grounding but with the on-field decision of try, there was nothing to overturn the score and Ulster are back in this.

Exactly the response they needed after shipping those two early tries.

James McCormick drives for the line and we'll go upstairs to see if he got it down.

They'll go for the tap penalty.

    R Ntamack (con Ramos)

    Toulouse have their second.

From that penalty, the maul drives forward before being halted just short.

With Ulster expecting Dupont to go short to the oncoming forward, he pulls it out the back for half-back partner Ntamack who evades Ben Carson on his way over the line.

    Toulouse 5-0 Ulster

Toulouse have got their maul going on a couple of occasions already so far.

They win a penalty here and Ntamack gives it a huge nudge to the five metre line.

  9. Postpublished at 4mins

    Toulouse 5-0 Ulster

Ulster try to respond quickly, winning a penalty which Aidan Morgan knocks to the corner.

The line-out is overthrown, however, and a big chance goes begging.

    Matthis Lebel

    It only took 90 seconds...

Ulster were under pressure in their own corner off the kick-off with Nathan Doak's touchfinder giving Toulouse a chance to attack off the line-out.

From there, it was all too easy with Toulouse working the ball from right to left with Matthis Lebel finishing strongly in the corner.

The hosts can't add the conversion but what a start to their title defence from the holders.

    Toulouse v Ulster (15:15 GMT)

In this 30th season of European action, this will be the 15th time that Toulouse and Ulster have met in the various guises of this competition.

Toulouse have just got the better of things, winning seven, losing six and drawing one of the previous meetings.

The French side came away 48-24 winners at Kingspan Stadium in January with Ugo Mola's side running in seven tries in the win.

The most famous head-to-head, however, came during the 1998/99 season when Ulster won 15-13 in the quarter-finals on their way to being crowned Irish rugby's first European champions.

    Toulouse v Ulster (15:15 GMT)

Ulster certainly face a huge challenge this afternoon but their scrum-half Nathan Doak is excited by the prospect.

"This is why you play – you’re playing against Toulouse and against Dupont – it’s just something that you want to be a part of," said Doak.

"It’s a big challenge but something we are looking forward to."

We may be in the south of France but it's very much woolly hat and gloves weather.

There's been a gentle drizzle all day to spice things up as the players warmed up (as much as they can!).

The home support made some racket as the teams got off their respective coaches, and many have got into the ground early to get a close-up glimpse of Dupont and his star-studded team-mates.

It's going to be a huge ask for a young Ulster side.

  16. 'We have to go out and attack the game'published at 15:04 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December

    Toulouse v Ulster (15:15 GMT)

Ulster captain Iain Henderson, who starts among the replacements this afternoon, has been speaking to Premier Sports before his side get underway against Toulouse.

On the challenge of facing the holders in their opener: "The team we're playing is exceptional, unbelievable at home.

"It's going to be a huge challenge for us, we have to go out and attack the game."

On making an impact off the bench: "We want to be coming on and doing what we know we can do well. It's making sure we can add a bit when we come on and hopefully continue a big performance."

    Toulouse v Ulster (15:15 GMT)

With Ireland having played their final autumn fixture against Australia last weekend, Ulster head coach Richie Murphy has opted to keep most of his Test players in reserve.

Iain Henderson, Rob Herring, Tom O'Toole, Nick Timoney and Cormac Izuchukwu are all named among the replacements, although Stuart McCloskey starts in midfield.

For holders Toulouse, there is no Blair Kinghorn in the matchday 23 but plenty of stars will be on show.

Antoine Dupont starts at nine and is joined in the backline by the likes of Thomas Ramos, Ange Capuozzo, Santiago Chocobares and Romain Ntamack.
