This feels like a big part of the game. With the scoreboard pressure and a man down, if they can nick a try here, it gives them something to build toward and they can try and chase the scoreboard again.

Some changes for the Bulls. Superstar winger Canan Moodie is on for Sergeal Petersen, who picked up an injury early in the second half.

Jan-Hendrik Wessels is also on at loosehead prop. Another Springbok cap.

  3. converted try

    Grant Gilchrist

Ewan Ashman shows off his twinkle toes and dances through some tackles! He pops to James Lang, who is brought down before he's able to get his hat-trick.

They throw wide to the right, but Darcy Graham is nabbed short. There's no stopping Gilchrist from a metre or two out though.

And Thompson splits the uprights with his hardest kick of the day, way out wide.

  4. Sin-bin Jannes Kirsten (Bulls)published at 41 mins

    Edinburgh 24-7 Bulls

The referee believes there's mitigation, and the TMO agrees. Both Chris Paterson and John Barclay are surprised at that.

Either way, Kirsten is off for 10 minutes and the Bulls are down to 14 men again.

  5. TMO time...published at 41 mins

    Edinburgh 24-7 Bulls

Grant Gilchrist was into the referee's ear there, and while his protests were initially waved away, the TMO has gotten involved.

It was the first tackle of the second half, as Jannes Kirsten tackles Ross McCann. The replay shows that Kirsten's shoulder catches McCann in the face.

    That could be red...

  6. Kick-off / Second halfpublished at 40 mins

    Edinburgh 24-7 Bulls

Ali Price is on at half-time, replacing Ben Vellacott.

Price will be away at the end of the year, apparently to Montpellier if rumours are to be believed. Will this be his final European game? Not at this stage.

  7. Edinburgh showing 'good signs' with fast startpublished at 13:40 British Summer Time 12 April

    HT: Edinburgh 24-7 Bulls

    John Barclay

Edinburgh have, from the very get go, played with ambition.

We saw that from the first few passages of play, that willingness to push the extra pass. James Lang and Matt Currie were heavily involved in the first few stages of the game.

They found their structure really early and that's a good sign for a team.

  8. Everitt will be 'delighted' with first-half showingpublished at 13:36 British Summer Time 12 April

    HT: Edinburgh 24-7 Bulls

    Chris Paterson
Former Scotland international on Premier Sports

For Edinburgh it was the perfect start, got a lot of possession, got points on the board early.

The Bulls have barely fired a shot. They haven't had a lot of possession.

Edinburgh have bene outstanding in both defence and attack. The tempo, keeping the ball alive, crossing for three tries and kicking that late penalty.

    Sean Everitt will be delighted.

  9. Half-time Edinburgh 24-7 Bullspublished at 13:25 British Summer Time 12 April

There's a little forward pass in the Bulls attack and that is that for the first half.

It's been a mighty impressive 40 minutes from the hosts, but so often we have seen them put in two contrasting performances either side of the break.

Can they find some consistency to hold on in the second half and secure a semi-final spot?

A fourth line-out penalty from Ewan Ashman, with a second squint throw in a row. It's his Achilles heel, because he's been superb in the loose so far.

The Bulls have the scrum with the clock in the red. Edinburgh will just want to get into the sheds now.

  11. Penalty EDINBURGH 24-7 Bullspublished at 37 mins

    Ross Thompson

Edinburgh are playing with penalty advantage again, contact in the air from the throw. Thompson points to the sticks on the 22m line.

Remember, there's no bonus points today, it's all about finding a way to win.

His three conversions have been easy today, and Thompson adds the three.

Almost a disaster for Ben Vellacott.

Devon Williams was trying to kick down into the corner and got it all wrong. Someone shouted at Vellacott 'let it go!' but the ball bounced in the in-goal area and bounced back over Vellacott's head onto the five metre line.

Thankfully for him, and Edinburgh, Ross McCann won a penalty at the breakdown.

That's the third throw of the game Edinburgh have lost.

It's something they need to iron out.

Ewan Ashman concedes a penalty and the Bulls kick it down into the corner. The maul is held up and the Bulls have to go through the phases...

But Hamish Watson rips the ball away and Edinburgh are able to clear to their 22m.

Then they steal the line-out! It's working both sides of the ball so far.

The old classic move, boot the ball off the defender and gather the rebound.

    Straight off the training ground!

Jamie Ritchie's carry, and Ewan Ashman's on the outside edge. So many are stepping up this afternoon.

The Bulls need to forget that try, it's unfortunate for them. There's not a huge amount you can do when there's a ricochet like that.

  17. converted try

Converted try EDINBURGH 21-7 Bullspublished at 23 mins

    James Lang

Lucky, lucky Lang as his kick is charged down and just pops back into his hands.

He spins out of the tackle and skips under the posts. You won't see many tries like it!

  18. Postpublished at 21 mins

    Edinburgh 14-7 Bulls

That's the 21st minute, half an hour after kick-off. Half as many stoppages as game time.

Ben Vellacott was getting some treatment after someone trod on his toe but he's up and bouncing about again.

  19. Postpublished at 19 mins

    Edinburgh 14-7 Bulls

Ewan Ashman dummies a throw and gets pinged by the referee. He makes amends moments later, squeezing through a gap and popping to Ben Vellacott.

It's quick thinking from the co-captain, who immediately puts boot to ball and chips over. It bounces just too high for the scrum-half and Bulls gather.

I was just in the process of writing about how well Edinburgh had started and how they had a chance to put this game out of sight.

And then BANG! Bulls hit back and remind us there is still an awful long way to go.
