Summary

  1. 'England are on the wrong side of the referee'published at 18:30 Greenwich Mean Time

    HT: England 17-19 South Africa

    Mike Henson
    BBC Sport at Allianz Stadium

Referee Andrew Brace is in discussions with Jamie George and Sam Underhill as he heads down the tunnel.

England are on the wrong side of the referee, both at the scrum and with the interpretation of Jack van Poortvliet's use of the ball at the base.

They really need to get aligned with the official if they are to haul this one back their way.

  2. 'Simple South Africa ball'published at 18:28 Greenwich Mean Time

    HT: England 17-19 South Africa

    Matt Dawson
2003 World Cup winner on BBC Radio 5 Live

Ellis Genge is getting piled by the South Africa tight-head and hooker.

Get yourselves in at half time, but every scrum has been simple South Africa ball.

You cannot give yourself a chance to win this game if that is the case.

Wake up Andrew Brace!! Etzebeth is offside every single charge down...

Neither side is defending particularly well here. What worries me is that England don't have the intensity levels of SA.

Freddie Steward takes the ball over his head and then gallops away. He kicks it through but Tommy Freeman is unable to get on the end of it.

That is why he was picked.

  8. Smith is so 'dangerous' in attackpublished at 18:17 Greenwich Mean Time

    England 17-19 South Africa

Former England wing on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's great attack. They are pulling South Africa this way, that way, all over the place. Marcus Smith is so dangerous.

Next to break clear is Marcus Smith. He steps Siya Kolisi before Aphelele Fassi smashes the fly-half. Smith again is running the show for England.

Rezaa: Good to see England giving us a game. But we've been here before, and we know how it ends. Come on you Springboks!

Grant Williams again races clear, but this time he is turned over. You can see why he was brought in to start. Any gap around the scrum and he is gone.

  12. 'Cute line from Underhill to finish that'published at 18:12 Greenwich Mean Time

    England 17-19 South Africa

    Matt Dawson
2003 World Cup winner on BBC Radio 5 Live

    Sam Underhill using his mind.

He has the reputation of smashing people back but it was down to George Martin and Chandler Cunningham-South to truck it up and Underhill came on this cute line, blind-siding the Boks.

He has shown some power and athleticism to finish that try.

  13. 'Underhill carried three players with him'published at 18:11 Greenwich Mean Time

    England 17-19 South Africa

    Chris Ashton
Former England wing on BBC Radio 5 Live

That wasn't scripted, Sam Underhill has come from an angle that is almost undefendable. He went on his own but carried three players with him.

    England 17-19 South Africa

Again Eben Etzebeth charges down Jack van Poortvliet's box kick. A clear tactic, but this time England get away with it.

Maybe Etzebeth went slightly early? A close one....

  15. try

Converted try - England 17-19 South Africapublished at 27 mins

    Sam Underhill (con Marcus Smith)

Exactly the response England needed. Sam Underhill hits a great line from the ruck and powers his way over.

    A vital score.

England’s defence is way too open - we can’t afford to concede so many points in every game. Borthwick is just not good enough at this level

    England 10-19 South Africa

    Chris Ashton
Former England wing on BBC Radio 5 Live

You know as soon as the ball has left Libbok's boot it is a try. As soon as the ball is in the air you know Kolbe is going to catch it and score a try. There is too much space around him.

  18. 'Poked the bear'published at 18:06 Greenwich Mean Time

    England 10-19 South Africa

    Matt Dawson
2003 World Cup winner on BBC Radio 5 Live

South Africa have sprinted back into their half. They really do mean business.

Something has poked the bear and properly wound them up. I don't know whether it is because England are playing well or because they have said something.

  19. try

Converted try - England 10-19 South Africapublished at 22 mins

    Cheslin Kolbe (con Manie Libbok)

    Classic Cheslin....

Manie Libbok delivers a perfect cross-field kick to Cheslin Kolbe, who steps an onrushing Freddie Steward effortlessly.

  20. Postpublished at 20 mins

    England 10-12 South Africa

It is all South Africa now as they go charging towards England's line after turning down a shot at goal. They again turn down a kickable penalty for the corner.
