As James Hook summed up, it wasn't necessarily pretty but Mark Jones and Ospreys will be happy to get the job done with a bonus-point win.

That takes them up to second in Pool 3 behind leaders Montpellier who have clinched a bonus-point 28-5 win over Lions.

Pau can re-take second place when they travel to Dragons tomorrow but it sets up a cracker next Saturday when Ospreys head to face the French outfit.

    FT: Ospreys 35-15 Newcastle

Ospreys captain Jac Morgan told S4C: "It was a physical game. In all fairness to Newcastle they came out in the first half and the start of the second half, and they tested us a bit.

"Every point is important in Europe so we were glad to get the bonus point today. We'll move on to Pau next week and hopefully get the result."

Ospreys head coach Mark Jones said: "We knew it was a very important game for our aspirations, particularly with it being a home game.

"The selection of the team showed that we wanted to make sure there were no slip ups.

"This competition is tough. I thought Newcastle played well, they put us under pressure but in the end it was our quality in the end that got us over the line."

It is job done for the Ospreys, it wasn't a thriller but they got what they wanted with maximum points and they go into next week with something to play for.

    FT: Ospreys 35-15 Newcastle Falcons

Player of the match and Ospreys fly-half Dan Edwards said: "We played good rugby today. The first 10 minutes were quite tough. They came out the blocks quickly, they've got a young team so we were expecting it. We were great in the second half.

"I'm enjoying my rugby at the moment. Enjoying having the ball in my hands and that showed today."

    Thinking about Wales selection?

Edwards replied: "I'm concentrating on putting in good performances for the Ospreys and making sure we get the results to get us through to the next round."

Ospreys were in total control and they cruised to a bonus point victory. Just what was needed after going down in Montpellier.

This victory has given them a foothold in the last 16 of the challenge cup.

The Ospreys fly-half continues to impress, especially with his kicking.

Not a bad time to get a man of the match award just two days before Wales selection.

And with injury concerns over Sam Costelow, could this be his chance?

    Pepper try

And they do - Max Pepper scores in the right-hand corner.

Quick hands along the line and the wing grabs a score.

    Conversion is missed.

Nathan Greenwood steps inside Jack Walsh but he splills the ball with the try line beckoning.

It's been that sort of night for Newcastle.

But they come back for another scrum in front of the posts.

They really need to get something from this pressure to take something from the game.

    Ospreys 35-10 Newcastle

Kieran Wilkinson again tries the cross-field kick but over-cooks it with the boot.

He's tried that once time too many.

But Falcons have a penalty in front of the Ospreys posts.

Hardy could've pulled out of that. There were two other Ospreys players coming through for the ball.

Keelan Giles kicked over the top and had several Ospreys queueing up to take the bounce.

Unfortunately for the hosts they were all offside so Hardy's second try - which was actually a nice finish - is chalked off.

    Ospreys 35-10 Newcastle

Newcastle Falcons director of rugby Steve Diamond told S4C: "We're reasonably happy all over, we've got a lot of young lads out.

"We just don't want it to be a cricket score. We need to keep our discipline, it's been poor second half, and get out with some self respect."

The try has put the Ospreys on the front foot. They're away and clear now for the last ten minutes.

    Hardy try, Edwards on

You wait 24 minutes for a try and then two come all at once.

Justin Tipuric and Owen Watkin combine to release Dan Kasende clear on the right wing before an inside sends Kieran Hardy racing clear.

    Suddenly Ospreys are flying.

    James Hook
Former Wales fly-half on BBC Radio Wales

That's just what the Ospreys needed.

It was a great pass from Dan Edwards. He drew the defender in and invited Jack Walsh into space, with enough momentum to get over the try line.

There's just under 15 minutes to go and Ospreys need to take the shackles off.

    Walsh try, Edwards con

There it is... the bonus-point try for Ospreys... at last.

Edwards kicks to the corner but it was a little too far out for the forwards to drive from.

So they spin play wide and Walsh races onto Edwards' long pass with a well-angled run and then slides over from five metres out.

    Is that the game?

You can sense the frustration here.

Ospreys have so far been awful in the second half against a spirited and young Newcastle side.

Mark Jones' side need a bonus-point win but they have not really looked like scoring a fourth try yet since the teams returned after half-time.

  20. Eek!published at 62 mins

    Ospreys 21-10 Newcastle

Newcastle wing Max Pepper was almost a little too casual then!

He was marshalling the ball as it rolled into the Falcons try area but almost got caught by the bounce as Dan Kasende rushed in.
