    Canada 5-24 Scotland

Scotland penalised by referee Adam Leal and again, Canada have a throw down in the corner.

Scotland obstruct on the line-out set up and Lucas Rumball takes it quick - but the Scots have somehow stolen it. That might have been Stafford McDowall.

Elliot Millar Mills tries to run it out from behind his own line but he's wrapped up and it's a goal-line drop-out.

Scotland are eating up metres from first phase. It's tough for the Canadian defence to keep up.

  3. try

    Arron Reed

It's a try-scoring debut for Arron Reed after some fantastic work from Harry Paterson.

Every time Paterson has carried into contact, he's found an offload. This time, he draws the defender and slings it out the back door for Reed to touch down.

Another kick from out wide flies past the post.

That was all a bit easy for Scotland.

Ross Thompson wasted no time kicking to the corner, and the hosts really struggled to stop that maul.

  5. try

Try Canada 5-19 Scotlandpublished at 26 mins

    Dylan Richardson

And as expected, Scotland crash over the try line with a textbook driving maul, with Richardson getting his second of the day.

George Turner scored a hat-trick last time Scotland played Canada. Could Richardson, a potential heir to the throne, repeat the feat?

This time, Ross Thompson's kick sails wide.

    Canada 5-14 Scotland

We're back under way, as Canada tighthead Conor Young receives some treatment. He spent some time with Melrose and the Southern Knights in the Super Six.

Scotland have started strongly after that hydration break. They've got a penalty in Canada's 22m and Ross Thompson boots it into the corner.

  7. Water breakpublished at 20 mins

    Canada 5-14 Scotland

Siaki Vikilani knocks on as Canada threaten a second score to narrow the deficit.

That's the halfway mark of the first half which means we'll stop for a water break - it's 27°C in Ottawa currently.

Crikey, that first 20 minutes has flown in.

    Canada 5-14 Scotland

Scotland penalised at scrum time, and then again after Kyle Steyn fielded a Canada kick. The young guns a little too eager, at the moment.

Canada kick down to the corner. We know what they can do from here.

Meanwhile, I can confirm that Kyle Steyn is back off, with Harry Paterson back on.

    Canada 5-14 Scotland

We've really had three attacking phases here, all of which have ended in tries.

It's been very, very open. This could be a big scoreline.

  10. converted try

    Dylan Richardson

Scotland cut through the Canadian defence with ease!

Ross Thompson was the man who found the gap this time, breezing through before offloading to Richardson - now a hooker, three years after his Scotland debut as a back-row.

Thompson slots the kick from in front of the sticks.

    Canada 5-7 Scotland

Kyle Steyn is on early. I'm just trying to figure out who he's replaced...

Meanwhile, Scotland have a scrum near the half-way line, with an advantage coming.

There were a few top offloads in there, the one from Harry Paterson in particular.

Scotland made that look quite easy in the end. That'll settle some nerves in the Scotland camp.

    Josh Bayliss

Scotland have their first real bit of possession and immediately start punching gaps in the Canadian defence.

Harry Paterson comes into the line, takes the hit and is able to offload to Matt Currie, who pops inside for Bayliss to canter over.

What a response! Ross Thompson - Glasgow's third-choice fly-half at times this season - adds the conversion.

  14. try

Try CANADA 5-0 Scotlandpublished at 8 mins

    Lucas Rumball

A disastrous start from Scotland, who concede penalty after penalty to allow Canada down into the 22m.

It's a driving maul that goes over in the end, despite the best efforts of Rory Sutherland, and it's captain Lucas Rumball who had the ball under his arm.

Peter Nelson, a left-footer, misses the kick.

    Canada 0-0 Scotland

Canada are knocking on the door here, and an advantage is coming.

Arron Reed intercepts nicely and scampers away but it's pulled back for that advantage. Matt Currie was offside.

Peter Nelson kicks to the corner again instead of taking an easy three points. Interesting.

    Canada 0-0 Scotland

A good break down the short side by winger Andrew Coe after a really strong rolling maul that got Canada up the pitch.

They win a throw in Scotland's 22m, and then win a penalty. Peter Nelson kicks to the corner - Canada want an early try.

    Canada 0-0 Scotland

If you're not watching on the telly, the clock started at 40 minutes and is counting backwards - BACKWARDS! - to zero. Unbelievable.

While I try to get my head round that, it's a pretty tame start as Scotland concede a penalty after getting into Canada territory.

Well after some extremely tuneful renditions of Flower of Scotland and O Canada, we're off!

For you Canadian fans, look out for Lucas Rumball - the skipper. An exciting player who gets about, we're told.

Peter Nelson, born in Northern Ireland, gets us under way.

  19. McDowall says captaincy was "a shock"published at 22:07 British Summer Time 6 July

Glasgow Warriors centre Stafford McDowall co-captains tonight alongside Edinburgh's Luke Crosbie and admitted he was surprised to get the nod.

"Gregor told me and Luke Crosbie together that we'd be co-captaining when we first came into camp," McDowall said.

"It was a bit of a shock, I was a bit overwhelmed. I was straight on the phone to my dad and he's coming out for the game on Saturday.

"He was always planning to come to one game, and when he heard I was going to be co-captain, he was like 'that's the one'. It's a special day for my family. He's played a massive role in my career so I'm glad I get to share the day with him.

"Being part of the leadership group at Glasgow has been massive for me. Just having the confidence to put my thoughts forward."
