"Probably being more clinical, hold on to those passes and hold the passes for longer. I can't fault them for playing with 13 players for 30-minutes. "

New Zealand captain Alana Bremner: "Congratulations to Spain, they were physical, it was what we expected. I am so proud of the way we came together, it was a first World Cup for players on both sides.

"There was a lot of excitement and some of those passes wern't sticking, first game we were not looking for perfection.

"We covered that what if [13 players], in the weeks leading up to this."

New Zealand player of the match Liana Mikaele-Tu'u: "That was a tough game, amazing performance by Spain.

"We know this is more tan a World cup for them so we didn't take this game lightly. "

Spain's head coach Juan Gonzalez: "We are really happy with the performance. We know New Zealand are a really good team. We came here trying to get the girls in Spain to be inspired by us. So we are really happy with the way we played.

"I think we have some things to work on. But I think we have confidence to work and face the Ireland game with passion."

The Spanish team are all holding hands doing a lap of honour. Their fans are lapping it up.
