    Hawkins 1-0 Vafaei

Barry Hawkins has consistently reached the business end of events this term.

And shows his class in the opening frame with a break of 91.

The Englishman is one of the nicest guys on the professional circuit and would be a popular world champion.

He won that frame before a ball was potted on the other side of the partition.

Reigning champion Kyren Wilson holds a 6-3 lead over Lei Peifan going into the concluding session of his first-round match at the Crucible.

The world number two twice missed blacks off the spot in the second frame as Crucible debutant Lei, 21, went 2-0 in front during this morning's opening session.

The 33-year-old Englishman recovered to win the next six frames in a row, making a 136 break in the eighth to add to three earlier half-centuries.

But Chinese qualifier Lei pinched the final frame of the session, after Wilson missed a pink trying to get position on a tricky last red, to give himself hope of a comeback.

Their best-of-19-frames contest will be played to a finish tonight.

Barry Hawkins gets his Crucible campaign under way in Saturday's evening session - he takes on Iran's Hossein Vafaei.

Hawkins, 45, reached at least the semi-final stage of the World Championship in five out of six years between 2013 and 2018, losing to Ronnie O'Sullivan in the 2013 final.

He narrowly lost this season's UK Championship final to world number one Judd Trump and is still waiting for a maiden Triple Crown event victory.

Could this year be his year?

    Robertson 2-6 Wakelin

It wasn't quite the last chance saloon, but not far off.

One more frame to play in this session.
