People ask me all the time what it's like when we go to China from a snooker perspective - when you see Ding out there, he is revered by everybody. It must be what it's like being a Rolling Stone. He's one of the most recognisable people in the whole country.

He's been an absolute flagbearer for snooker out there and all the players who have followed him dream of being the next Ding. It's an incredible legacy that he's built for himself.

Mark Allen, speaking to BBC Two after a 10-6 first-round win against Fan Zhengyi:

"I'm very happy with that performance.

"It was a bit of a shaky start yesterday and I thought Fan was very good at the start. I was really happy to be 5-4 in front overnight and I played some really good snooker today.

"I stole two frames in a row that I had no real right to win and it made the scoreline look a little flattering at the interval - 9-4 could have easily been 7-6 and then it would have been game on.

"I didn't close it out as clinically as I would have liked but I finished off nicely."

    Ding 5-2 Surety

Just as Zak Surety looks like he is about to get a chance to win the seventh frame he runs out of position and plays safe.

Ding Junhui can barely get his fingernails on the table but somehow knocks in a glorious long red on the way to putting himself firmly in control of the frame, which he secures.

With it, the three-time UK Championship winner ensures he will take a lead into Tuesday afternoon's concluding session.

Mark Allen will be very happy with that, especially after being 3-0 down and on the end of an early barrage.

He turned it round and showed all of his match play. The first four frames this afternoon were very good - two high-scoring visits and two frames that he nicked.

All in all, he's had a good run-out, he'll be happy with the "W" next to his name and he'll look forward to the rest of the tournament.

That's the difference between the very good players and the top ones, because that's a monster frame he's nicked there.

Fan will realise that you can't be that loose when you're near the end of the frame and you look like you're going to win it, because the top players will do that to you.
