    Trump 4-1 Zhou

    John Parrott
1991 world champion on BBC Four

When you play the top players and don't punish them when you do get opportunities they start running away into the distance.

You really have to put them under some pressure by showing them you are there to score. Zhou Yuelong is not doing that.

  2. Postpublished at 21:06 British Summer Time 22 April

    Trump 4-1 Zhou

Judd Trump has to play safe on 32 and Zhou Yuelong then forces a decent chance with an excellent safety but makes one.

He then completely butchers another attempt at a long red down the left and leaves an inviting table for the 30-time ranking event winner.

This is going to go 5-1....

    Trump 4-1 Zhou

Even when things don't go to plan, Judd Trump comes up trumps.

He misses a long red down the left of the table but when it rebounds across a couple of cushions and lands over the right corner Zhou Yuelong is snookered on it by the black.

He tries a billiards-style shot, with the white cannoning off another red but can't pot his intended target and it leaves the Englishman in the balls.

    Trump 4-1 Zhou

Judd Trump now has 94 centuries this season. If he gets six more he can pick up a £100,000 bonus.

That plus the winner's cheque here would make him the first player to break the £2m barrier in a single campaign.

  5. Si's game hasn't progressed - Hendrypublished at 20:52 British Summer Time 22 April

    Si 9-4 Gilbert

    Stephen Hendry
Seven-time world champion on BBC Two

Si Jiahui is one frame away from the second round, but he needs to do more to convince seven-time champion Stephen Hendry he is a title contender:

I love his aggression, he is pretty much all-out attack.

My only slight criticism - he got to the semi-final a couple of years ago and lost to Luca Brecel...I don't think his game's progressed since then.

He's pretty much the same player. You'd like to think you would mature with your shot choices. but I do like the way he plays. He doesn't shy away from a big shot at all.

    Trump 4-1 Zhou

Zhou Yuelong offers Judd Trump a go at a long red down the right side of the table and well the world number one simply does not refuse them.

He plays it in at a weight that suggests he knew it was a shot he'd never miss and less than10 minutes later he's got the frame in the bag.

The Juddernaut is in the building this evening and a break of 117 makes it 4-1.

  7. Postpublished at 20:40 British Summer Time 22 April

    Trump 3-1 Zhou

Back under way and up comes a graphic to show that Zhou Yuelong's safety success is currently 57% and his long pot success is 33%.

Quite striking figures that will need to drastically improve if he is to get out of this session in decent shape.

As an extra incentive and motivation for the fans at the Crucible, one of the sponsors (Midnite Sports and Casino) has an initiative going throughout the competition.

For each of the sessions, one fan is chosen at random and wins themselves a green T-shirt. That supporter then stands to pocket £25,000 if a 147 (on either table) is made by any player.

One snooker loopy punter would have been getting very excited in the second frame of the session when David Gilbert potted nine reds and nine blacks to get to 72, only to then miss the 10th red.

Only 14 maximums have been seen at the Crucible - three apiece from Stephen Hendry and Ronnie O'Sullivan and one from Cliff Thorburn, Jimmy White, Mark Williams, Ali Carter, John Higgins, Neil Robertson, Kyren Wilson and Mark Selby. There was not one in the Crucible tournament last year.

  9. Trump should enjoy being 'the best'published at 20:26 British Summer Time 22 April

    Trump 3-1 Zhou

    Stephen Hendry
Seven-time world champion on BBC Four

Getting the win is the most important thing. It is about getting a lead after the first session. Aim for 6-3 and 7-2 would be a bonus and then you can take care of the match tomorrow under as little stress as possible.

Why would you not be comfortable coming here as the best player in the world? You have to enjoy it.

Zhou is not going to get tons of chances against Judd Trump, so if he doesn't take the ones he gets he is not going to win the match.

He missed a couple in the fourth frame that he should not have.

  10. Trump in controlpublished at 20:21 British Summer Time 22 April

    Trump 3-1 Zhou

Judd Trump is comfortable and takes a healthy 3-1 lead into the interval. He did not even have to play that well to win that frame.

Zhou Yuelong will need to up his game considerably just to stay in touch.

  11. Si stretches his leadpublished at 20:13 British Summer Time 22 April

    Si 8-4 Gilbert

A stunning long red seals the frame for Si Jiahui and he now only two from victory.

If he overcomes Dave Gilbert, the Chinese player will face four-time champion Mark Selby or Ben Woollaston in round two.

    Trump 2-1 Zhou

Zhou Yuelong is in after a rare Judd Trump miss trying to snick a red into the middle. But he misses a red to the top right corner and puts the world number one straight back into bat, so to speak.

  13. Zhou gets a frame backpublished at 20:03 British Summer Time 22 April

    Trump 2-1 Zhou

Zhou Yuelong has been sat in his seat for a couple of frames.

The 27-year-old has only ever won one match at the Crucible, but if he keeps playing like this he'll make it two very soon.

A brilliant red along the bottom cushion sets him on the way to a half century and the frame.

  14. Postpublished at 19:52 British Summer Time 22 April

    Trump 2-0 Zhou

Zhou Yuelong gets a useful 35 on the board but runs out of position and plays safe.

He's left Judd Trump a look at a long red down the left side but the Englishman can't knock it in.

  15. One back for Gilbertpublished at 19:46 British Summer Time 22 April

    Si 7-4 Gilbert

Dave Gilbert comes unstuck - with a potential 147 on the cards - on a 72 break, with 73 left on the table.

Si Jiahui eats into the deficit but breaks down on 38 and it's now 7-4.

  16. Trump doubles his advantagepublished at 19:43 British Summer Time 22 April

    Trump 2-0 Zhou

Zhou Yuelong has scored just one point in the opening two frames.

Judd Trump has scored 174 with an average shot time of 14.9 seconds.

This could be a night that goes badly, very quickly for Zhou.

  17. 'I would love to see a Chinese player win a world championship'published at 19:33 British Summer Time 22 April

    Ding 10-7 Surety

    Ding JunhuiImage source, PA Media

We've been hearing from Ding Junhui, who has moved into the second round at the Crucible for the first time since 2020 thanks to a 10-7 win over Zak Surety.

Ding, who lost in the final in 2016, became the fourth player from China to move into the last 16, with at least one more to come as Zhang Anda plays Pang Junxu in another first-round tie.

Yesterday, Ding held a 4-0 lead and a 6-3 advantage, but Surety fought back before Ding won it 10-7.

"There was huge pressure and he played so well, he made huge centuries any chance he could and made some frame-winning breaks," said Ding. "The last few years it has been out in the first round, it wasn't easy but it's good that I'm still in the tournament.

"I would love to see a Chinese player win a world championship. It would be great for Chinese snooker and also for young ones looking at the players. People are keeping an eye on snooker and they would then start playing."

  18. Si surges on against Gilbertpublished at 19:29 British Summer Time 22 April

    Si 7-3 Gilbert

Si Jiahui is firmly in control of the the battle between two former Crucible semi-finalists.

The Chinese player moves 7-3 up against Dave Gilbert with a 98 clearance..

  19. Trump impresses in opening framepublished at 19:25 British Summer Time 22 April

    Trump 1-0 Zhou

Zhou Yuelong makes a complete mess of an awkward long red off the cushion.

It bounces away from the bottom left bin as the white nestles into the perfect position for Judd Trump to make a big break.

The 2019 world champion does not disappoint....this could well be a century break to open.

    Nope just a 93!
