    Si 6-3 Gilbert

    Mark Allen
The 2018 Masters champion on BBC Four

Si Jiahui has already won shot of the Championship with the shot he played potting the red yesterday.

It could still go either way but he has a good lead.

    Trump v Zhou

Welcome back - and welcome to the world number one Judd Trump.

Trump has won three tournaments in this campaign, including two of the sport's four majors in the Saudi Arabia Masters and the UK Championship.

It has boosted his earnings to levels never seen before by a player in a single season and the £500,000 top prize would take him close to the £2m mark.

And while the 35-year-old has played it down previously, he would dearly love to get his hands on the World Championship trophy for the second time in his career to cement himself as one of the game's greats.

Should he produce the scintillating, fast-paced snooker he is renowned for, Trump is capable of sweeping virtually any opponent aside.

  5. 'Can go away with my head held high'published at 17:51 British Summer Time 22 April

    Ding 10-7 Surety

    Michael Emons
BBC Sport at the Crucible Theatre

England's Zak Surety, who lost 10-7 to 10th seed Ding Junhui, has been talking to the media.

It was a Crucible debut for the world number 73, who had to win through four qualifying matches to get here and then made four century breaks - the record for a debutant.

Surety said: "I loved it today considering how bad I felt when I started yesterday. It was brilliant to feel like that out there, just a shame I gave him such a big headstart at 4-0.

"It was just a bit of nerves early on. I'm the biggest Crucible nerd and was waiting for the nerves and I felt OK. But then I felt the arena get smaller and it all got on top of me.

"Yesterday I felt I didn't belong here. But it's nice to go away with something out of it. In the end I can go away with my head high, desperate to get back here again next year."

    O'Sullivan 5-4 Carter

    It's all nicely poised.

Ronnie O'Sullivan v Ali Carter will resume at 14:30 BST on Wednesday.

Our coverage will be closing for now within the next 10 minutes or so, but meanwhile let's get some reaction to this afternoon's other match....

    O'Sullivan 5-4 Carter

    Kyren Wilson
2024 World Championship winner on BBC TV

There was so much built up expectation with Ali coming in as a qualifier and Ronnie coming in as an unknown this year which is so strange.

I'm sure Ronnie will go away and be happy with a one-frame lead.

    O'Sullivan 5-4 Carter

    Steve Davis
Six-time world champion on BBC Two

Ronnie will know he does not want to beat himself up too much if he is missing from distance.

In the past when his long game has been off he has done that but perhaps he knows this is unchartered territory and he will not punish himself mentally for making mistakes and that's a better position to be in.

    O'Sullivan 5-4 Carter

    Kyren Wilson
2024 World Championship winner on BBC TV

Ali seemed to have the bit between his teeth. That will feel massive going in at 5-4 rather than 6-3 [down].

There have been positives from both guys that they can take into Wednesday's session.

    Steve Davis
Six-time world champion on BBC Two

It was a great last red from Ali Carter. He will be delighted with that.

  11. Carter gets back within a framepublished at 17:31 British Summer Time 22 April

    O'Sullivan 5-4 Carter

Yes he can. Brilliant response from Ali Carter.

He is right back in this match with the final session to come on Wednesday afternoon.

    O'Sullivan 5-3 Carter

Ali Carter produces a fantastic pot on the final red....

Can he finish this off and take the frame?

  13. Postpublished at 17:28 British Summer Time 22 April

    O'Sullivan 5-3 Carter

Ali Carter forces the error and gets within a point of Ronnie O'Sullivan but now has to play safe on the final red. What a fascinating ending to the session.

  14. Postpublished at 17:26 British Summer Time 22 April

    O'Sullivan 5-3 Carter

Ali Carter has a chance to get right back in this frame but there are several difficult reds to negotiate here.

It's just a 28 break and then a very good snooker behind the pink which gets a tap of approval from Ronnie O'Sullivan.

This match has been played in very good spirits.

    O'Sullivan 5-3 Carter

Ronnie O'Sullivan has a 46-5 lead but a long red to the top left corner bounces out of the jaws.

    A reprieve for Ali Carter.

  16. Postpublished at 17:18 British Summer Time 22 April

    O'Sullivan 5-3 Carter

This final frame could be crucial and knowing that Ronnie O'Sullivan plays a brilliant long red into the bottom left corner.

His break comes to an end on 17, when he smashes into the pack and knocks a red in while potting the blue.

Ali Carter makes a mess of a slight swerve to flick a red into the left corner and offers a wry smile, clearly expecting the worst.

    O'Sullivan 5-3 Carter

    Kyren Wilson
2024 World Championship winner on BBC TV

It is huge to have Ronnie O'Sullivan back because of the attention he brings to the game. It would be great to see him go and win an eighth world title but first and foremost it is just good to see him back competing.

  18. Ding goes throughpublished at 17:12 British Summer Time 22 April

    Result: Ding 10-7 Surety

World number 10 Ding Junhui is through to the last 16 with a hard-fought 10-7 win over England's Zak Surety.

Surety hit three century breaks this afternoon to become the first Crucible debutant to score four ton-plus clearances.

But his Chinese opponent wraps up victory with a run of 75. He faces Luca Brecel or Ryan Day in round two.

  19. Carter replies with century breakpublished at 17:10 British Summer Time 22 April

    O'Sullivan 5-3 Carter

    Much better from Ali Carter.

He will be behind when this match resumes on Wednesday afternoon but by how many frames?

The world number 18 crafts a stylish 107 break to win a frame in one visit for the first time today. Could he get out of this session 5-4 down?

    O'Sullivan 5-2 Carter

Ronnie O'Sullivan fails to dispatch another long pot.

Ali Carter is at the table with a chance to score heavily. Feels like we have seen this movie a few times already today.
