World squash champion Nick Matthew secured a record-breaking seventh national title with a dominant victory over Daryl Selby in Manchester.

Matthew, 33, had shared the record of six victories with Cassie Jackman, external, who retired in 2004, but took the outright lead with a 11-5, 11-3, 11-2 win.

"To beat her record was a massive goal of mine and it makes me feel young again," he told BBC Sport.

In the women's final Sarah-Jane Perry beat world number three Laura Massaro.

World number 16 Perry - who defeated the defending champion Alison Waters in the semi-finals - produced a stunning opening to lead by two games.

Former world champion Massaro fought back to level, before 24-year-old Perry took control of the final game and secured her first national title with a 12-10, 11-9, 7-11, 10-12, 11-7 victory.

"I was a bit nervous as I've never beaten her before, but it's given me a lot of confidence and I really want to push into the top 10 in the world now," she said.
