1. Britain 'left' looking for successpublished at 19:45 Greenwich Mean Time 23 November 2023

While the rest of the media stood transfixed by Djokovic for 20 minutes or so on Tuesday, I wandered over to the next couple of practice courts - where today's opponents were going through their paces.

Britain's leading two singles players here - Jack Draper and Cameron Norrie were hitting on adjacent courts, before Liam Broady - a late call-up after Andy Murray's withdrawal - appeared shortly after.

It means all three singles players in the team are lefties - quite the anomaly.

"I don't think any of us has played too many left-handed players lately," said Djokovic, who has one of the game's most enduring rivalries with Rafael Nadal, of course.

"It was not easy to find a left-handed sparring partner, but we did well."

Barely 48 hours after winning the ATP Finals against Jannik Sinner in Turin, Novak Djokovic was back on court on Tuesday practising with his Serbia team-mates in Malaga.

You can see in the photo below how close about 60 members of the media were able to get to the 24-time major champion.

Djokovic has been the star attraction here this week - even more so in the absence of Spanish senores Nadal and Alcaraz.

As well as the frenzied attention at the practice sessions, this was also demonstrated at the Serbia team news conference yesterday.

Seven of the eight questions were aimed at Djokovic, with only captain Viktor Troicki being asked anything else.

Fair to say the team-mates were a mixture of slightly bored and amused.

    Djokovic v Norrie

So, 1-0 Serbia. Can Djokovic seal a semi-final spot for his country? Or can Cameron Norrie level the tie and take it to a deciding doubles?

The bad news for Great Britain is that Djokovic has a 3-0 win record over Norrie, with the latest of those a straightforward 6-3 6-4 victory in Rome in May.

The world number one is coming off the back of winning a record seventh ATP Finals title.

    Kecmanovic 7-6 (7-2) 7-6 (8-6) Draper

Miomir Kecmanovic on his victory to put Serbia ahead in the tie:

"It's amazing. I definitely felt the pressure and the weight of the moment but I'm super happy that I was able to stay calm, stay focused and get the win.

"I feel lucky to be a part of this group. It's just a group of guys who have been playing unbelievable and have had great careers. It just feels good to be a part of that group who have been doing so well."

Jack Draper looks disconsolate as he stares into the court while taking some tape off his hands.

In his ears, he can hear the sound of Serbs celebrating.

They're also singing along to a tune which sounds like the Balkan Abba with added panpipes.

British captain Leon Smith sits next to his young charge and is no doubt trying to offer some reassuring words.

Not sure he can say anything which will help 21-year-old Draper right now.

Kecmanovic was a bit of a surprise name when the team sheet was released earlier today but what a performance.

    Thoroughly deserved the victory.

Kecmanovic says in his on-court interview he was "feeling the pressure" in the match. You wouldn't have known it.

    Full quotes to come.

What a performance from Miomir Kecmanovic. Victor Troicki had faith in Kecmanovic and he certainly delivered. Kecmanovic thoroughly deserved that win.

Into the net! So disappointing for Draper but it's a brilliant showing from the Serb Kecmanovic and he puts his nation 1-0 up in the tie!

Serbia are celebrating as though they've won the whole thing. And when you've got the world's best player up next, why not I suppose.
