Portugal's Nuno Borges awaits the winner of this tie in the second round.

  2. 'I've ever seen Alcaraz so out of sorts'published at 17:17 British Summer Time 30 June

You have got to say the fresher of the two players is Fabio Fognini right now.

However, it's almost like the Italian is waiting to go behind in games before his intensity increases.

Carlos Alcaraz is just making some easy misses here, it's been a very bizarre performance from him. I don't think I've ever seen him so out of sorts.

  3. Game and first set - Dartpublished at 17:16 British Summer Time 30 June

    Dart 6-3 0-0 Galfi*

Harriet Dart wins five games in a row to take the opening set against Hungarian Dalma Galfi.

Galfi hits into the net and then blasts a forehand well wide as Dart holds to love on her service game.

A much-improved performance from the Brit but there were a huge 19 unforced errors from Galfi who fell apart towards the end of the set and trots off for a toilet break.

  4. Fognini breakspublished at 17:15 British Summer Time 30 June

    Alcaraz 7-5 6-7 (5-7) 7-5 2-3 Fognini*

Centre Court is abuzz again as Fabio Fognini gets the first break of the fourth set!

The pair take it in turns to win a point after a couple of fantastic rallies early in the game before Carlos Alcaraz is undone by a net chord at 30-30.

The Spaniard seems to be well placed as he follows in a backhand slice but the deflection takes the ball out of his reach.

When he goes long on the next point, it's the Italian Fognini with the advantage. Are we going the distance in the first match of the championships on Centre Court?

  5. 'Fognini is just not dropping'published at 17:12 British Summer Time 30 June

    *Alcaraz 7-5 6-7 (5-7) 7-5 2-2 Fognini

    Andrew Cotter
    Commentator on BBC One

Well played again from Fabio Fognini. He is just not dropping.

Carlos Alcaraz's level is certainly not at his best, but Fognini just keeps finding something else.

This is his farewell to Wimbledon so he will want to keep going further. Could he end with one of the greatest upsets, perhaps?

Eighth seed Holger Rune has joined Daniil Medvedev in making an early exit.

The Dane had looked to be cruising at two sets up against the world number 143 Nicolas Jarry but then the match unravelled for him.

There's a little pocket of Chile-flag-waving fans on court three who are absolutely delighted at the fightback staged by their man!

And there will be a few players watching with interest as this half of the draw starts opening up.

  7. Fognini holdspublished at 17:09 British Summer Time 30 June

    *Alcaraz 7-5 6-7 (5-7) 7-5 2-2 Fognini

The door is ajar for Carlos Alcaraz at 15-30 but Fabio Fognini quickly slams it shut.

Three points on the spin, the Italian holds and it stays on serve early in the fourth set.

  8. 'Alcaraz shows amazing footwork and balance'published at 17:07 British Summer Time 30 June

    Alcaraz 7-5 6-7 (5-7) 7-5 2-1 Fognini*

    Tim Henman
Former British number one on BBC One

On the first day of the tournament when the court is a little bit green, it's not easy to move but whatever the surface, Carlos Alcaraz shows amazing footwork and balance.

  9. Alcaraz holdspublished at 17:05 British Summer Time 30 June

    Alcaraz 7-5 6-7 (5-7) 7-5 2-1 Fognini*

Five deuces later and Carlos Alcaraz holds.

A game typical of this match with the world number two being pushed all the way, chances for Fabio Fognini but - to this point at least - Alcaraz doing just enough.

With 100 unforced errors already - 52 for Alcaraz, 48 for Fognini - the quality hasn't always been the best but it's certainly a compelling watch.

  10. Game and second set - Harrispublished at 17:04 British Summer Time 30 June

    Harris 6-3 6-2 0-0 Lajovic*

Great Britain's Billy Harris is now two sets to the good against Dusan Lajovic on Court 15.

He registers two more breaks of serve to take the second set and he needs one more to earn his first ever singles win at a Grand Slam.

  11. 'I keep thinking Fognini might start to wilt'published at 17:01 British Summer Time 30 June

    Alcaraz 7-5 6-7 (5-7) 7-5 1-1 Fognini*

    Andrew Cotter
    Commentator on BBC One

I keep thinking Fabio Fognini might start to wilt, considering Carlos Alcaraz has gone 2-1 up, but he doesn't look like he is even starting to fade.

He has an early chance to break here in set four...

  12. Dart holdspublished at 17:00 British Summer Time 30 June

    Dart 2-3 Galfi*

Harriet Dart, one of many Brits in action on the first day of Wimbledon, is up against Hungarian Dalma Galfi on court 17 and she has not got off to the best start.

She holds on her service game but is a break down in the opening set.

  13. Alcaraz saves three break pointspublished at 16:58 British Summer Time 30 June

    Alcaraz 7-5 6-7 (5-7) 7-5 1-1 Fognini*

Is the heat getting to the 38-year-old Fabio Fognini with this match now into its fourth hour?

Not yet, it's not! He produces a brilliant, whipped forehand that dips in to put him up 0-30 on the Carlos Alcaraz serve.

He ends up on the deck after the next point, stops briefly for a lie down then gets up and wins the next to earn two break points.

Alcaraz is able to stave them both off - Fognini's shot clipping a net chord working to his advantage - and then a third, this time with another drop shot and a crosscourt volley.

    Deuce. On they go...

  14. 'Work, believe and dream'published at 16:56 British Summer Time 30 June

    Fearnley 4-6 1-6 6-7 (5-7) Fonseca

Joao Fonseca speaking on court: "It's a pleasure being here. I'm sorry for winning against a British guy but thanks for the support and respecting the tennis today.

"Jacob is a great friend and player and I look forward to my next meeting with him."

On whether he was nervous to play on Court One: "Yes. At the beginning of the match we were both very nervous. There were no rallies - we were nervous. It's a dream to be on this court."

On what he has been doing to improve this year: "Work. I've been working a lot. The key is work, believe and dream."

  15. Game and second set - Quinnpublished at 16:55 British Summer Time 30 June

    *Quinn 4-6 6-2 Searle

Henry Searle loses his serve and in turn loses the second set.

The former Wimbledon boy's singles champion will be disappointed with how that played out having done so well to turn the opening set around.

A big cross-court forehand seals it for American Ethan Quinn and we are all-square on court four.

  16. Fognini holdspublished at 16:53 British Summer Time 30 June

    *Alcaraz 7-5 6-7 (5-7) 7-5 1-1 Fognini

Another fun rally with Fabio Fognini getting his tweener just right, landing the ball on the baseline.

It ends with Carlos Alcaraz firing a forehand long but he can afford to smile about it at this stage.

Fognini double faults but brushes it off to hold to 15.

  17. 'Can Fognini respond again?'published at 16:50 British Summer Time 30 June

    Fearnley 4-6 1-6 6-7 (5-7) Fonseca

Jacob Fearnley gets far too much on his forehand and that's the match.

Fearnley was a couple of mini-breaks up in that tie-break but Fonseca fought back to win five points in a row and book his spot in round two.

    *Fearnley 4-6 1-6 6-6 (5-6) Fonseca

Joao Fonseca with a 10th ace of the match and fifth of this set.

    Actually...

Make that 11th ace of the match at 139mph to earn match point.

  20. Searle to serve to stay in second setpublished at 16:49 British Summer Time 30 June

    Quinn 4-6 5-2 Searle*

Ethan Quinn is an imposing figure at the net at 6ft2.

The American has game point at 40-15 and tries a serve and volley.

Henry Searle gets the return back and then Quinn's initial effort at the net, but he can't do enough with the next and the world number 89 puts it away to force the British wildcard to serve to stay in the second set.
