That incident on Centre Court is a reminder that even as we approach the evening the temperatures out here are still pretty sweltering.

Mercifully, much of Court One is now in shade but there is still one unlucky corner bathed in sunshine.

Henry Searle had his chances, but some close-calls with the baseline and misses into the net mean the British wildcard is going to have to do this the hard way if he is going to cause the latest upset on day one of Wimbledon.

Looks like a spectator in a sunny spot on Centre Court has taken a turn.

A concerned Carlos Alcaraz grabs an icy bottle of water and runs across court to hand it over to medics.

We've got a delay with someone in the crowd in need of attention. The sun is beating down and Carlos Alcaraz is quick to take over a water bottle for a spectator.

Umpire James Keothavong announces to the crowd that the match will be paused while the fan receives some treatment.

That's more like it from Mimi Xu - an assured hold from the Wimbledon debutant.

Emma Raducanu certainly attracts the attention but Mimi Xu is well backed here, too.

The Welsh player has plenty of support from the home nation with many punters holding up signs saying "Come on Mimi".

Many who know her from her former tennis club in Swansea were clambering for tickets and I'd say there's a fair few of them were successful based on the support.

"Come on Britain!" is the cry from one fan on Court One. Way to sit on the fence.

"VAMOS!!" roars Carlos Alcaraz.

He saves the two break points, produces a big ace to get to advantage and when Fabio Fognini's forehand finds the net, the Spaniard holds.

Break consolidated. A 3-0 lead in the fifth set, just one break but that's real scoreboard pressure on Fognini.

This match has now been going for more than four hours...

Emma Raducanu, despite being only 22, is by far the more experienced player of the two.

It's another hold to love for the former US Open champion and she is yet to drop a point on serve.

Remarkable stuff from Fabio Fognini.

He's come out swinging on the Carlos Alcaraz serve and brings up two break points...

Alcaraz's scowl turns to a smile as Fognini playfully threatens to hit a ball at him.

Don't make him happy, Fabio.

When Alcaraz is relaxed and playing freely, that's when he is most dangerous...

That's what happens as Alcaraz strikes first and goes all Incredible Hulk - tensed muscles and roaring vocal cords - on Centre Court.

That is the light hearted moment that Alcaraz needed - in the previous game, the microphones at the back of the court were picking up on him venting his frustrations towards his box.

A big smile from him - he can just relax off a little bit.

Henry Searle gets his second set point as he edges ahead 8-7 in the tie-break.

Can he take his chance?

No. His forehand flies long.

Searle works himself another chance, but once again his shot just misses the baseline.

Even amidst the pressure, there is still time for a smile.

Carlos Alcaraz is just sensing the opportunity and he would love an early break in this fifth set.

He was down 40-15 after one net chord went against him. The very next point another helped him out as Fabio Fognini falls into the net after desperately trying to get to it.

The players exchange a laugh at that point but an unforced error from Fognini takes it to deuce and when Alcaraz puts away a volley to break, there are no smiles.

Not from the Italian and not from a pumped up Alcaraz.

Mimi Xu looks a little more settled in the third game of the match, but Emma Raducanu has still had a couple of chances to secure a double break.

The 17-year-old places a forehand winner cross-court to eventually clinch her first game at Grand Slam level.

Not very often you see Carlos Alcaraz losing it.

After missing another return in the second game, he gesticulates and chunters at his team.

The heat's got to him. So has Fognini.

Harriet Dart breaks to move ahead in the second set after Dalma Galfi hits into the net on two consecutive shots.

Now she needs to consolidate the break as she tries to keep the positive momentum going.

It was all going so well for Henry Searle, but Ethan Quinn has pegged the British wildcard back.

It is all-square at 6-6 at the change of ends.

There are a lot of firsts here for 17-year-old Mimi Xu.

It's her first time playing Emma Raducanu, her first time playing on this huge show court here, and obviously it's her debut at a major.

Understandably it's taking her a little bit of time to settle out there.
