  1. Is Fognini using similar tactics as he did against Nadal?published at 16:19 British Summer Time 30 June

    Naomi Broady
British player on BBC Radio 5 Live and BBC Sounds

Alcaraz is in a tussle for that baseline control - Fognini does it so well.

I think it's why it was such an effective play against [Rafael] Nadal, Fognini would take Nadal's balls on the rise before it kicked up and caused problems above shoulder height.

Fognini takes it so early and Alcaraz is trying to match him, but with the depth that Fognini is hitting at, Alcaraz doesn't have time.

  2. Fearnley holdspublished at 16:19 British Summer Time 30 June

    Fearnley 4-6 1-6 4-3 Fonseca*

Jacob Fearnley is also looking pretty confident too, though.

A drop volley puts him 30-0 up.

The hold to love is confirmed when Joao Fonseca pushes a forehand long.

  3. Alcaraz saves three break pointspublished at 16:17 British Summer Time 30 June

    Alcaraz 7-5 6-7 (5-7) 4-3 Fognini*

I wondered whether we were seeing the 'real' Carlos Alcaraz again.

Well, maybe not as he gives up three more break points. But there is no doubting that the fight is still very much there.

From 15-40, the first two are saved, the second with an ace out wide. Then having worked his way to advantage, Alcaraz can only smile as Fabio Fognini comes into the net and finds the angle to flick a brilliant cross-court winner.

A third break point follows, is saved again and another big ace gives Alcaraz a vital hold.

However this match turns out, the defending champion has really been tested this afternoon.

  4. Fonseca holdspublished at 16:17 British Summer Time 30 June

    *Fearnley 4-6 1-6 3-3 Fonseca

Joao Fonseca is stroking the ball around with incredible confidence.

He opens up his body and guides a forehand winner into the corner for a hold to 15.

Fonseca has dropped just one point across his past two service games.

  5. Klugman holdspublished at 16:16 British Summer Time 30 June

    *Fernandez 6-1 1-2 Klugman

A vast improvement from Hannah Klugman who holds to 15 and is ahead on the scoreboard for the first time in this match.

The British crowd applaud her efforts as a sweeping forehand is too much for Leylah Fernandez to handle.

  6. Fearnley holdspublished at 16:13 British Summer Time 30 June

    Fearnley 4-6 1-6 3-2 Fonseca*

The white paint skips up off the grass as Joao Fonseca's forehand lands flush on the baseline to lead 30-0 against serve.

But unlike the second set when Jacob Fearnley folded under pressure, the Briton comes back fighting and wins four successive points to hold.

  7. Fognini holdspublished at 16:12 British Summer Time 30 June

    Alcaraz 7-5 6-7 (5-7) 3-3 Fognini*

    Fabio Fognini steadies the ship.

After being rather brushed aside in the past two games, the Italian stops the rot with a very solid service game.

He went down 0-15 but then wins the next four points in a row, including successfully chasing down the umpteenth drop shot of the day from Carlos Alcaraz.

  8. Klugman breaks backpublished at 16:12 British Summer Time 30 June

    Fernandez 6-1 1-1 Klugman*

Hannah Klugman breaks back at the first opportunity.

She plays a delicate drop shot just over the net and Leylah Fernandez is unable to reach it.

That will give the British teenager some much-needed confidence.

  9. Fonseca holdspublished at 16:10 British Summer Time 30 June

    *Fearnley 4-6 1-6 2-2 Fonseca

Joao Fonseca responds with a hold to love.

The speed on the Brazilian's serve is proving too much for Jacob Fearnley to deal with.

  10. Fearnley holdspublished at 16:08 British Summer Time 30 June

    Fearnley 4-6 1-6 2-1 Fonseca*

Jacob Fearnley looked deflated at the end of the second set but he seems to have brushed those feelings aside in the third.

A hold to 30 keeps us on serve.

  11. Fernandez breakspublished at 16:08 British Summer Time 30 June

    *Fernandez 6-1 1-0 Klugman

Not the best start to the second set for Brit Hannah Klugman who is broken in her opening service game.

A well-placed backhand catches Leylah Fernandez out but she recovers quickly and Klugman hits into the net.

The game goes to deuce and Klugman hits her shot high into the sky. She misses the chance to hold with Fernandez breaking at the first opportunity.

  12. 'Alcaraz doesn't back off'published at 16:07 British Summer Time 30 June

    Pat Cash
Former Wimbledon champion on BBC Radio 5 Live and BBC Sounds

A bit of a sloppy game from Fognini, with a couple of good shots from Alcaraz.

He doesn't really back off does he? He has missed quite a few forehands that he normally doesn't but he continues to go for it.

He has a belief that it will click at some stage and he will hit a bunch of winners. The serve is still not quite there.

BBC Sport's Ask Me Anything team have been asking for your questions...

Here's one on the hot weather at Wimbledon today.

What are the heat rules at Wimbledon?

Wimbledon is set to experience record-breaking temperatures on Monday - the start of the 2025 Championships.

The opening-day record of 29.3C - set in 2001 - is expected to be beaten.

To help keep players safe, Wimbledon has a heat rule for all singles matches when deemed necessary.

Wimbledon uses the Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) scale to determine whether the heat rule should be enforced.

If the WBGT is at 30.1C or higher, players will be permitted 10-minute breaks during a match.

  14. Alcaraz holdspublished at 16:06 British Summer Time 30 June

    Alcaraz 7-5 6-7 (5-7) 3-2 Fognini*

Are we finally starting to see the real Carlos Alcaraz?

"Vamos!" he shouts after landing forehand winner right on the line to seal a hold to 15.

Still plenty of work to do but this last couple of games has been much more like it from the defending champion.

  15. All popping offpublished at 16:06 British Summer Time 30 June

    *Fearnley 4-6 1-6 1-1 Fonseca

    Gary Rose
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

Anyone know the science behind Champagne? The mini bottles here at Wimbledon are proving popular and I've heard several pops between points today, but the loudness of it seems to be catching a few of the "poppers" by surprise, so I am guessing the high temperatures here are having an impact.

Another loud pop greeted that impressive opening game of the third set by Fearnley.

  16. Fonseca holdspublished at 16:05 British Summer Time 30 June

    *Fearnley 4-6 1-6 1-1 Fonseca

This time it's Joao Fonseca who makes his voice heard. The Brazilian shouts in delight when coming through a testing service game to hold.

It looks like this third set might be a bit more competitive than the second.

  17. Alcaraz breaks straight backpublished at 16:02 British Summer Time 30 June

    *Alcaraz 7-5 6-7 (5-7) 2-2 Fognini

What a response from Carlos Alcaraz!

The defending champion breaks back immediately - and to love.

He needed to up the intensity and he did just that. Back on serve in the third set.

  18. Game and first set - Fernandezpublished at 16:01 British Summer Time 30 June

    Fernandez 6-1 0-0 Klugman*

It's only a temporary relief for British wildcard Hannah Klugman as she loses the first set.

Leylah Fernandez seals the set with her first ace of the match and that took just 24 minutes.

Klugman will have to regroup and settle into the second set quickly.

  19. Fearnley holdspublished at 16:01 British Summer Time 30 June

    Fearnley 4-6 1-6 1-0 Fonseca*

Jacob Fearnley lets out a roar when he smashes an overhead volley at the net to lead 40-15

The Briton closes out for the hold.

That was much-needed after a disastrous second set.

  20. No weather break at the end of the setpublished at 16:00 British Summer Time 30 June

    Alcaraz 7-5 6-7 (5-7) 1-2 Fognini*

    Russell Fuller
Tennis correspondent on BBC Radio 5 Live and BBC Sounds

There will not be a 10 minute break for the players at the end of this set because the heat rule is not in effect at Wimbledon. The latest reading, taken at 14:00 BST, said it was not quite hot or humid enough.

There will be one more taken at 17:00 BST. If not, perhaps tomorrow, where the temperature is expected to be similar.
