  1. Opportunity missed?published at 15:31 British Summer Time 30 June

    *Fearnley 4-5 Fonseca

    Gary Rose
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

The Court One crowd were loving that overhead volley by Jacob Fearnley and there was a real sense of belief that he would go on to get the break, but Joao Fonseca dug in to battle back for the hold. That prompted a few groans from the home fans, but some celebrations from a pocket of Brazilian spectators close to me.

  2. Fonseca holdspublished at 15:30 British Summer Time 30 June

    *Fearnley 4-5 Fonseca

Joao Fonseca wins his fifth point in succession when Jacob Fearnley whips a forehand into the net to get the hold.

Fearnley will serve to stay in the set.

  3. Fery holdspublished at 15:30 British Summer Time 30 June

    *Popyrin 4-6 1-6 6-4 4-5 Fery

If he had managed to take one of those opportunities in the last game, Arthur Fery would have been serving for a place in the second round.

The British wildcard looks to have put that out of his mind, though, and holds his serve quickly for the loss of just one point to put the pressure straight back on Alexei Popyrin.

The 20th seed will now be serving to stay in the match...

  4. Norrie into fourth-set tie-breakpublished at 15:29 British Summer Time 30 June

    *Norrie 6-3 3-6 6-4 6-6 Bautista Agut

    Into a tie-break we go.

Shouts of "come on Cam" from the crowd on Court 18 and Norrie responds with an ace to get his first point on the board in the breaker.

  5. Fognini holdspublished at 15:29 British Summer Time 30 June

    *Alcaraz 7-5 5-6 Fognini

    Superb from Fabio Fognini.

He guarantees at least a tie-break in this second set with an excellent hold.

Carlos Alcaraz put the pressure on with a blistering forehand winner down the line to make it 0-15 but Fognini was unfazed.

A series of big serves and some clinical finishing of points help him hold to 15.

  6. Deucepublished at 15:28 British Summer Time 30 June

    Fearnley 4-4 Fonseca*

Fine work from Joao Fonseca to save all three.

The Brazilian sends a winner into the corner for deuce.

    Fearnley 4-4 Fonseca*

Jacob Fearnley steps up to the net and smashes in an overhead volley to lead 30-0 against serve.

When you've got a Spaniard and an Italian simultaneously wiping their brows with an ice towel, it means it is hot on court.

Those sat in the uncovered lower seats are flapping Spanish-style abanico fans - or improvising with newspapers - ten to the dozen.

If you're lucky enough to sit in the shade then there is actually a cooling breeze wafting around Centre.

  9. Popyrin saves more break points to holdpublished at 15:26 British Summer Time 30 June

    Popyrin 4-6 1-6 6-4 4-4 Fery*

Despite the heat, Arthur Fery is looking more and more comfortable out on Court 15.

The Brit trades groundstrokes with Alexei Popyrin and brings up break point for the second game in a row on the Australian's serve.

Popyrin saves the first, the second and the third and finally secures the hold when he gets the chance.

Will Fery rue those missed opportunities?

  10. Alcaraz holdspublished at 15:26 British Summer Time 30 June

    Alcaraz 7-5 5-5 Fognini*

    Crucial hold for Carlos Alcaraz.

He takes it to 15, sealing it with an ace out wide.

This was the point in the first set that the second seed claimed the crucial break. Can he find his best stuff at an important moment again?

  11. Norrie holdspublished at 15:25 British Summer Time 30 June

    Norrie 6-3 3-6 6-4 6-5 Bautista Agut*

After squaring the fourth set, Cameron Norrie finds himself in a bit of trouble on his own serve - but he gets it done from 15-30 down and guarantees he will at least be in a tie-break in the fourth set.

Ice towel around the neck, three fresh bottles of water delivered to his chair - another break for Norrie here and he'll be into round two.

  12. Fearnley holdspublished at 15:25 British Summer Time 30 June

    Fearnley 4-4 Fonseca*

Joao Fonseca tries to cushion Jacob Fearnley's serve back over the net but it balloons away and the Brazilian jogs off to the side to change his racquet.

Fearnley denies his opponent the chance to use that new racquet when he aces for 40-0.

And the hold 15 is sealed when Fonseca scrapes a forehand into the net.

  13. 'He is not letting Alcaraz have a rhythm'published at 15:22 British Summer Time 30 June

    Pat Cash
Former Wimbledon champion on BBC Radio 5 Live and BBC Sounds

Fognini is doing a great job not letting Alcaraz have a rhythm - hit the ball hard and flat, drop shots, sneaking in. There has barely been any rallies beyond five shots each. He is not going to beat Alcaraz at the back of the courts rallying.

  14. Norrie breaks backpublished at 15:21 British Summer Time 30 June

    *Norrie 6-3 3-6 6-4 5-5 Bautista Agut

A brilliant start to the game from Cameron Norrie, who sends a superb backhand down the line for a winner, and the 2022 Wimbledon semi-finalist goes cross-court for a winner to get to 30-30.

Then Roberto Bautista Agut goes long with a forehand - a break point for the Brit... but Norrie frames a forehand and it flies wildly out. Deuce.

Double fault by the Spaniard - another break point... Bautista Agut sends a forehand wide and Norrie breaks!

  15. Fonseca holdspublished at 15:21 British Summer Time 30 June

    *Fearnley 3-4 Fonseca

Joao Fonseca is running through the full library of shots with a slice volley at the net enough to get him back to advantage.

Jacob Fearnley steps forward this time but can't emulate his opponent and his wide forehand sees the game go by.

  16. Fognini saves break pointpublished at 15:20 British Summer Time 30 June

    *Alcaraz 7-5 4-5 Fognini

The crowd is up now in support of Fabio Fognini.

He puts away an overhead volley to take a 40-15 lead on serve but Carlos Alcaraz just keeps fighting.

At 40-30, Fognini is in complete control of the rally but Alcaraz's defence is top notch and Fognini eventually goes long.

The Italian then screams at himself in frustration after going long again to give Alcaraz a break point.

That little telling off seems to do the trick as he saves the break point and goes on to hold.

Just as in the first set, Alcaraz is serving to keep the set going.

  17. Second deucepublished at 15:19 British Summer Time 30 June

    Fearnley 3-3 Fonseca*

Joao Fonseca has advantage and is closing in on a hold as he forces Jacob Fearnley on to the backfoot, but the Briton rises to the occasion and comes up with a lovely passing shot for second deuce.

  18. Postpublished at 15:18 British Summer Time 30 June

    Jonathan Jurejko
BBC Sport senior tennis reporter at Wimbledon

Alcaraz is not feeling it yet. The serve has been clunky and the groundstrokes wild.

The defending champion has not lit the fuse like Centre Court knows he can.

That has made for an entertaining contest with Fognini able to showcase his mercurial talents.

  19. Deucepublished at 15:18 British Summer Time 30 June

    Fearnley 3-3 Fonseca*

Joao Fonseca has won both previous encounters with Jacob Fearnley and both of those came earlier this year on hard courts.

The Brazilian won in three sets at Indian Wells and straight sets at the Canberra International.

Fonseca moves 40-30 up after firing over a 142mph serve but Fearnley gets to deuce.

  20. Fery holdspublished at 15:17 British Summer Time 30 June

    *Popyrin 4-6 1-6 6-4 3-4 Fery

A nice quick hold for Arthur Fery sees him edge ahead again in this fourth set.

Is the momentum beginning to swing in the Brit's favour?

A lot for the 22-year-old to think about as he sit with an ice towel around his neck at the change of ends.
