  3. 'I hope Raducanu is inspired by that performance'published at 22:18 British Summer Time 4 July

British player on BBC Radio 5 Live and BBC Sounds

Raducanu was a millimetre away from winning that match. So much of that was decided in the first set and it was really close in the second as well.

It was so positive and I hope she comes away from it gutted of course, because she lost, but inspired and feeling how close she is to the top of the women's game, how close she is to getting there and motivated to putting that extra work in to being up there for the next Grand Slam, which just happens to be the one she has won.

Yep, it's the US Open next in August, where Raducanu stunned the tennis world by winning in 2021.

World number one Aryna Sabalenka speaking on Centre Court after her third-round win over Great Britain's Emma Raducanu: "She [Raducanu] played such incredible tennis and she pushed me really hard. To get this win, I had to fight for every point like crazy. I'm super happy with the win of course. I'm super happy to see her healthy and back on track. I'm pretty sure that she will be back in the top 10 soon.

"Emma was playing incredible tennis once again. She was making me move a lot, serving well and playing great tennis from the baseline. I was just trying to stay focused and put as many balls as I could on her side. I just tried to put all of the pressure on her.

"What an atmosphere. My ears are still hurting, honestly. It was super loud! Every time you were cheering her, I was trying to tell myself to just pretend that you were just cheering for me. I had goosebumps honestly, so thank you for the atmosphere."

On staying calm amid the vibrant atmosphere: "I've had a lot of experience in the past, and especially recently, where I've just completely lost myself and I've not been able to play a point. Today I was just trying to keep telling myself to not make the same mistake. I just tried to stay calm and push myself to the limit."

An enthralling battle. An incredibly high standard.

Raducanu playing the best tennis we have seen from her all year, but the world number one was able to ride it out in the crucial stages.

She was pushed, she was challenged, she was threatened, but she responded and came through two tight sets in two hours.

  7. 'Confirmation that this is the woman to beat'published at 22:10 British Summer Time 4 July

The top seed is a round closer to being crowned champion here for the first time.

My goodness, that was a battle. What a battle that was!

Confirmation that Emma Raducanu is absolutely on an upward curve. Confirmation that this is the woman to beat.

  8. Top seed Sabalenka through to round fourpublished at 22:09 British Summer Time 4 July

    Sabalenka 7-6 (8-6) 6-4 Raducanu

Aryna Sabalenka was so disappointed to have to withdraw from Wimbledon last year because of a shoulder injury.

And she had some personal wrongs to right following the recent French Open final loss in which she said she was far from her best.

Well, on this evidence, she'll be tough to beat at SW19.

The world number one will play Elise Mertens, the 24th seed, in the last 16.

  9. Raducanu out of Wimbledonpublished at 22:07 British Summer Time 4 July

    Sabalenka 7-6 (8-6) 6-4 Raducanu

We said before the start of the match that Emma Raducanu had struggled against top players in Grand Slams this year, picking up just four games across two defeats by Iga Swiatek.

Well, the British number one didn't really do a lot wrong tonight. That's more like the Raducanu that won the US Open. Plenty to build on for the future.

It was just that Aryna Sabalenka found an extra gear when it was needed.

Sabalenka has been sensational from 1-4 down. There is clearly some fatigue now from Raducanu.

Is that the emotionally intense nature of the occasion? Is it from not having enough of these matches against the top players in the world?
