  1. Game and first set - Fritzpublished at 19:02 British Summer Time

    Nava 5-7 0-0 Fritz*

    Well, well, well.

After such a tight first 11 games, Taylor Fritz breaks Emilio Nava when it matters most to take the first set.

Nava is furious with himself after hitting an unforced error to give Fritz the break.

The fourth seed only had two break point opportunities in that set and took one of them - the final point of the set.

  2. Buse holdspublished at 19:01 British Summer Time

    *Shelton 6-3 6-2 3-2 Buse

A missed opportunity for Ben Shelton.

He closes out another service game before Ignacio Buse double faults on his way to allowing the American two break points.

Buse is able to save them though and shows determination to hold serve and keep himself in this third set.

  3. Fritz holdspublished at 18:54 British Summer Time

    *Nava 5-6 Fritz

This is really high quality stuff for the first round.

Taylor Fritz holds to put himself within a break of taking the first set but my word did he have to work for that.

Emilio Nava takes it to deuce but finds the net with a forehand groundstroke on Fritz's advantage to give him the hold.

  4. Shelton breakspublished at 18:52 British Summer Time

    *Shelton 6-3 6-2 2-1 Buse

Ignacio Buse fails to convert another break point as Ben Shelton gets himself to deuce with a great forehand across the court.

The American then forces his opponent in to an error and holds serve again.

A double fault sees Buse face break point himself and Shelton does well to return the Peruvian's serve before he goes long and allows the American to break.

  5. 'I'm enjoying working with Roig'published at 18:51 British Summer Time

    Raducanu 6-1 6-2 Shibahara

Emma Raducanu on winning so comfortably in the first round: "To play and put out such a clean performance in the first round, when there are inevitably a lot of nerves, I'm really proud I overcame that.

Raducanu on working with coach Francis Roig: "The people around me - I'm really enjoying working with Francis [Roig], he's a great person to have on and off the court. He is chatty and great fun off the court, we have a lot of laughs which definitely helps.

"He's great at having that calm and composure about him, reassuring me that all the work we're doing off the court doesn't need to pay off straight away but I know we are working towards something and building day by day.

"He helps with me trying not to be such a perfectionist."

  6. 'I've been spending time on the practice courts'published at 18:47 British Summer Time

    Raducanu 6-1 6-2 Shibahara

Emma Raducanu on staying sharp: "The match was taxing mentally to stay locked in, but physically it wasn't the longest match, so (in practice this afternoon) I can just tidy up a few things.

"It's something I've been doing over the last few weeks, spending time on the practice courts. It won't be very physical, but just to correct a few things."

  7. 'It's a good feeling'published at 18:45 British Summer Time

    Raducanu 6-1 6-2 Shibahara

Emma Raducanu speaking to Sky Sports: "The first game was important, holding to love. That relaxes you a little bit. I'm pleased to come through and have the afternoon off to relax, practice and get ready. It's a good feeling and now I can prepare as well as possible."

    Raducanu 6-1 6-2 Shibahara

Emma Raducanu speaking to Sky Sports after winning her first match at the US Open since 2021: "It's extremely special to come though that.

"Now I'm just excited to get back on the practice court and do my best to prepare for the next round."

  9. Buse holdspublished at 18:40 British Summer Time

  10. Nava holdspublished at 18:37 British Summer Time

    Nava 3-3 Fritz*

We're still on hold on the Louis Armstrong Stadium.

The arena is more packed now than it was for Emma Raducanu's victory an hour or so ago, but then there is two Americans on offer for the home crowd.

  11. game, set and match

Game, set and matchpublished at 18:36 British Summer Time

    Mensik 7-6 6-3 6-4 Jarry

What a way to wrap up a win!

Jakub Mensik saves three straight break points, nets on match point, saves a fourth break point and then Jarry hits a stunning forehand return to save a second match point.

But three is the magic number, as Jarry hits the net with a backhand on the third match point to hand Mensik victory.

The 19-year-old progresses to the second round.

  12. Game and second set - Sheltonpublished at 18:34 British Summer Time

    Shelton 6-3 6-2 Buse

Shelton holds and the American is in total control here.

It's a two-set lead and it looks like he has one foot in the second round already.

There are so many American men around at the same level at the moment, they are pushing each other on each week, each tournament.

  14. Shelton breakspublished at 18:29 British Summer Time

    *Shelton 6-3 5-2 Buse

Ben Shelton's serving has been absolutely fantastic so far this afternoon.

It's another hold for the American as he piles the pressure on his opponent.

Ignacio Buse then saves four break points but Shelton is able to convert his fifth.

The sixth seed will now serve for a two set lead.

  15. Mensik breakspublished at 18:26 British Summer Time

    *Mensik 7-6 6-3 5-4 Jarry

That's a huge break for Jakub Mensik!

Nicolas Jarry has been pretty strong on serve in this set, but he double faults and leaves Mensik serving for the match.

    Shelton 6-3 4-2 Buse

    Ryan Harrison
Former American tennis player on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra and BBC Sounds

The Americans now, they've been pushing each other, they grew up together.

When one breaks through it motivates you, gives you belief and pushes you to work harder. You don't want anyone getting a leg up on you.

  17. Fritz holdspublished at 18:20 British Summer Time

    *Nava 1-2 Fritz

We're on hold in this first set, after fourth seed Taylor Fritz wraps up his own service game in an all-American affair.

  18. Shelton breakspublished at 18:13 British Summer Time

    *Shelton 6-3 3-2 Buse

Strong serving from Ben Shelton and Ignacio Buse can barely lay a glove on the American.

He follows it up with a break after Buse fails to return a strong forehand.

The Peruvian is now in trouble in this match.

  19. Postpublished at 18:13 British Summer Time

    *Mensik 7-6 6-3 2-3 Jarry

Nicolas Jarry stays strong on serve once again and leads 3-2. Neither player looks like breaking the other any time soon.

That's something Jarry could do with doing if he is to win this set and get himself back in this match.

  20. Postpublished at 18:08 British Summer Time

    *Shelton 6-3 1-2 Buse

    Ryan Harrison
Former American tennis player on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

There's one conversation that goes on in the camp of Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton, and that's about how to break into the top two. Not to say that you overlook people in the first round, but what you are always looking to do is apply more pressure. For Shelton, that means not just being a server.
