Sometimes you laugh incredulously to yourself when remembering what Emma Raducanu did here four years ago.

It was so extraordinary it feels beyond belief.

Around Flushing Meadows there are plenty of reminders what the 22-year-old Brit achieved as a teenage qualifier.

On the way into the South Gate entrance of the Billie Jean King Tennis Center, you are immediately greeted by a bronze-plated honours board of the previous champions.

And in the bowels of Arthur Ashe Stadium, one of the corridors close to the players area is lined with iconic photographs of the recent singles winners.

Raducanu will be remembered here in perpetuity and always reminded of her stunning achievement when she returns.

    Good morning New York City!

This part of Manhattan turns into tennis town when the US Open returns.

The Midtown area is the business, commercial and tourist hub of the City That Never Sleeps - although it is, ironically, pretty dozy on a quiet Sunday morning.

It is easy to spot the tennis folk milling around - players, coaches, officials and media all grabbing their morning coffees.

Then it is a case of jumping on buses out to Flushing Meadows, which is about eight kilometres away in Queen's, for the first Sunday start in the tournament's history.

  5. Raducanu 'back in happy place' at US Openpublished at 16:04 British Summer Time 24 August

It's four years since Emma Raducanu stunned the tennis world by winning the US Open at the age of 18.

The Brit doesn't need reminding that she's struggled to hit those heights since, with Raducanu failing to win a single match at Flushing Meadows in the four following years.

But there have been green shoots of recovery in Raducanu's game this season and the world number 35 no longer fears returning to New York.

"I really struggled when I came back in 2022. I didn't enjoy coming back here," said Raducanu.

"I think now is the first time that I feel like I can come back to the US Open and really enjoy the memories that I made here.

"I can be proud of that and see it as a happy place.

"So for that, I feel very grateful for and very pleased about. So I feel in a much better place now."
