"My team believed in me every step of the way. They believed in me when I didn't believe in myself and helped me every step of the way.
"I love you all so much and I cannot wait for more. I just want to say thank you so much. I'm so appreciative towards every single person who helped me continue to believe in myself and push on to achieve this dream."

Finally, she has her hands on one of the sport's major prizes.
Addressing Aryna Sabalenka, she jokes: "I'm glad I got you back."
It draws a big smile from her opponent. Fair play to both of them - but especially Keys, as I'm not sure many would have risked making that joke...

It is a case of potential fulfilled, isn't it?
When we first saw Madison Keys at the Australian Open, everybody thought that she would win a bunch of Grand Slams and she would be in amongst the bunch.
But she hasn't been - up until now - and, to be honest, it never looked like she was going to.
She has done it the hard way as well, you only have to look at the players she has had to beat along the way.
Right then, time for the trophy ceremony.
Former champion Evonne Goolagong Cawley leads the tributes to both players' efforts, before we will hear from the players themselves and watch Madison Keys end her long wait for a major title.
And, yes, Aryna Sabalenka has now returned after her post-match meltdown.

What have we just seen?! That was just something else.
It was a slow burner of a match but, once it got going, it really came alive.
Madison Keys just brought it when she really needed it most - and she did leave it all out there.
She was brave. She played some absolutely sizzling winners. She was middling the ball. She was standing tall against the pressure.
She did exactly what she needed to do to prevent her having any regrets.

Madison Keys is also the first woman to defeat both the world number one and world number two at a Grand Slam since Svetlana Kuznetsova at Roland Garros 2009.
She's also the first to do so at the Australian Open since Serena Williams in 2005.
Along the way, Keys also put out the sixth and 10th seeds.
She really had to earn this.

How long a wait has she had?
Well, only two players have required more appearances to win their maiden Grand Slam singles title during the Open Era.
They are Flavia Pennetta (49) and Marion Bartoli (47).
This was the 46th Grand Slam appearance of Keys career, and only her second ever major final don't forget - eight years after her first.

Oh my goodness - I thought that was out!
I can't believe Madison Keys made that forehand down the line. I mean it was literally by a whisker.
How on earth has she made this ball? She used her legs, absorbed it all and that might win her this championship.

Madison Keys immediately puts the pressure on Aryna Sabalenka by taking the opening point.
What a return that is, my word!
I said this was a free hit for Keys and she lets rip on a backhand return for 0-30.

Incredible shot. Keys crouches low to crush a forehand winner away from Sabalenka before getting over the line to guarantee herself a tie-break at the very least here.
She'll have a free hit on Sabalenka's serve first, though!
