    .

I thought it was hot when Dan Evans was on court but it is considerably hotter now and the entrance to the stands was like a conveyor belt as spectators went out to top up on whatever drink of choice before coming back in.

“One and one is our golden rule here,” the announcer on court reminds fans to ensure they follow up a Pimm’s - if they are indulging - with water.

Both matches so far have been done in straight sets, will that continue? I certainly wouldn’t fancy being involved in a three-setter in this heat.

Former British number one Cameron Norrie was a runner-up at Queen's in 2021, losing against Italy's Matteo Berrettini in the final.

Norrie is yet to feature on the grass this season but is hoping to start building some momentum ahead of his eighth appearance in the Wimbledon main draw.

The 29-year-old reached the semi-finals at SW19 in 2022 but has failed to go beyond the third round each of the past two years.

"Days like this are why I've been carrying on playing.

"I've been preparing really well and focusing on what I needed to today. It has been a long year so far, I've been playing the lower tournaments but this is why I'm hanging around to try and get some wins on the grass.

On how it feels playing on Andy Murray Arena and how much the Scot has inspired his career: "Not just mine but the whole of British tennis.

"He always has time for everyone and it's fitting he has an arena called after him - hopefully he's not watching and hearing me say that."
