    *Raducanu 5-4 Joint

Emma Raducanu will want to get this set done. She had set points in the opener versus Ann Li yesterday, but let it slip through her fingers and was taken the distance.

She has swiftly moved 30-0 up here...

  2. Draw opening up for Raducanu?published at 14:34 British Summer Time

Emma Raducanu would have expected, when the draw was made, to have been facing twice Wimbledon finalist Ons Jabeur today.

But the Tunisian was defeated 7-5 6-2 by Joint in round one, leading to a recalibration for Raducanu and their team.

Raducanu is also the only seed in her quarter of the draw after top seed and reigning champion Daria Kasatkina - who she was on course to face in the last eight - was beaten in round one.

World number 46 Lulu Sun triumphed 7-5 2-6 6-3 over Kasatkina - but has just been beaten 6-3 6-3 by Anna Blinkova today.

That means Russian Blinkova faces the victor of Raducanu v Joint in the quarter-finals.

    *Raducanu 5-4 Joint

A weak second serve is punished by Raducanu, earning yet another break point... but Joint saves it.

However, she picks the worst moment possible for a double fault, then goes long!

    Raducanu 4-4 Joint*

Maya Joint, thanks to her world ranking, will make her main draw debut at Wimbledon this year. She is certainly getting used to the grass surface it seems.

She passes Emma Raducanu who had moved up to the net to try and punish a drop shot from the Australian. Certainly Joint seems unfazed by the partisan British crowds.

But Raducanu has taken her to deuce...

  5. Joint breaks backpublished at 14:27 British Summer Time

    Raducanu 4-4 Joint*

Emma Raducanu has the fourth-best break-point conversion record on the WTA tour this year. Hopefully that stands her in good stead today.

On her own serve, she produces another double fault then is passed expertly by Joint. When the Australian measures her forehand right, it is a deadly weapon.

Now then, Joint has a break point after some fortune from the net cord... and it is converted by the Aussie.

    Back on serve, once again.

  6. What's the weather like at Eastbourne?published at 14:23 British Summer Time

After some of yesterday's matches were disrupted by rain and the wind caused havoc across the courts, things are a little more civilised with the weather today.

It's largely overcast but completely dry, and while there is some wind blowing off the south coast it isn't turning umbrellas inside out as it was yesterday.

Hopefully that should allow for some high quality sport.

    *Raducanu 4-3 Joint

We have another seagull-inflicted delay to serve, and some wag in the crowd shouts something inaudible but gets chuckles from supporters and even a smile from Raducanu.

Back on court, Joint seems to have some trouble controlling her forehand today - another wild hit gives her foe a 15-40 advantage.

Raducanu puts the first break point in the net, but a well-measured slice then forces an error from Joint.

A potentially huge game for Raducanu.

Another roar goes up from Raducanu and the spectators are enjoying a nice show between the Briton and the Australian here.

    Raducanu 3-3 Joint*

Glory be, we have some sun at Eastbourne. First time this week by my measure.

After lengthy opening game then exchange of breaks, this match appears to have setted down now. But Raducanu throws down the first double fault of the match, then sprays a mishit forehand wide.

She however manages to hold to 30, and roars in delight.

  10. Who is Maya Joint?published at 14:15 British Summer Time

Emma Raducanu is the seventh seed, the higher ranked player and the favourite today - but she should not underestimate her Australian opponent.

Maya Joint is ranked 51st in the world, and earlier this year won the Morocco Open - her first WTA singles title.

Raducanu and Joint faced each other earlier in the season at the Italian Open, where the Brit won in three sets - 7-5 6-7 6-3.

    *Raducanu 2-3 Joint

Emma Raducanu is left with hands on hips after a Maya Joint forehand very narrowly catches the line. The Brit was convinced that was out - hawkeye disagrees.

    Joint holds to love.

    Raducanu 2-2 Joint*

We are on back watch for Emma Raducanu, following injury issues which afflicted her at Queen's and saw her pull out of the Berlin Open.

She seems in good shape today so far, holding to 30.

As usual with Emma Raducanu matches, there is a lot of interest in this one. She has transcended tennis, the former US Open champion.

She has a real battle on her hands here.

  14. Emotional Raducanu wins despite 'really bad news'published at 14:08 British Summer Time

Emma Raducanu said her emotional reaction to her first-round comeback victory at Eastbourne was because she received "some really bad news" before the match.

Coach Mark Petchey and Raducanu's Billie Jean King Cup team-mate Fran Jones were courtside for the match.

"I'd prefer to not go in to it, if that's OK, but I just received some really bad news so I'm trying to overcome that in the background," Raducanu told BBC Sport.

"Mentally, in the first set, I wasn't really present. Fran Jones was there for me because she's a good friend of mine, so she knows what's going on behind the scenes.

"Having her support me was so meaningful."

    *Raducanu 1-2 Joint

Emma Raducanu looks to be moving smoother today than she was against Ann Li, and here pulls Maya Joint all over the court before the Australian goes long.

It's a fourth break point of the match already for Raducanu... and this one she takes with a lovely backhand winner!

    Back on serve.

    Raducanu 0-2 Joint*

We knew this would be a tight match - only 13 world ranking spots separate these players - and Maya Joint early doors has indicated Emma Raducanu will not have it her own way.

But hello, a long backhand from Joint gives two break points to Raducanu...

A powerful Joint forehand saves one, then Raducanu goes long. Deuce.

  17. Joint breakspublished at 14:02 British Summer Time

    Raducanu 0-2 Joint*

A slightly squiffy opening from Raducanu in her first service game, sending a forehand well wide for 15-30.

Joint then gets a stroke of luck, soft hands on her drop shot allowing it to clip the net then drop over. That's break point to the Aussie.

And she takes it with a superb cross court inside-out forehand! Early blow to Raducanu.

    *Raducanu 0-1 Joint

Worth noting that her victory over Ons Jabeur in round one was Maya Joint's first ever competitive win on grass.

She eventually takes her first step towards another win here, after holding her serve in a seven-minute opening game.

    Raducanu 0-0 Joint

A constant feature of Eastbourne this year has been players having their serves interrupted by seagull antics. Maya Joint here smiles as she is made to wait by some loud cawing from off court.

She's less impressed as Raducanu earns a break point, but Joint denies her with a fearsome forehand that clipped the net and landed out of the Brit's reach.

But after getting the advantage, Joint then finds the net after an extended rally.

Settle in folks, this could be an epic.

Yesterday's match between Raducanu and Ann Li was unpredictable from point to point, and today may be a similar affair if this opening set is anything to go by.

Back and forth the momentum goes, with Raducanu taking Maya Joint to deuce on her opening service game...
