Alexander Zverev's dad is still muttering away.

He is trying to add something into the mix here, but I'm not sure it is going to be enough.

I think we are nearly done in this match.

Nope. It's just too good from Jannik Sinner, who forces Alexander Zverev into the corner and the German can't find the court with his return.

The finish line is in sight for the defending champion.

When you come into a final, I suppose you want to play your best tennis. The reality is that finals are full of pressure.

We remember the amazing finals between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, but there are a lot of finals where the players aren't able to play at their best.

Alexander Zverev's body language is a bit of a concern here. I know he tends to get a bit grumpy at times, but he hasn't shown any sign of him getting himself fired up tonight.

Alexander Zverev is putting his absolute everything into these forehand strike, but it's proving too much.

He's unable to trouble Jannik Sinner who holds his position on the middle of the baseline and waits for his opponent to mess up. 30-0.

  9. Sinner hold to lovepublished at 11:06 Greenwich Mean Time 26 January

Jannik Sinner takes control with his forehand, sending the ball to one side of the court and then to the other, with Alexander Zverev trailing behind.

Zverev trudges back to his chair for the changeover with his head hanging low. He's being offered very few opportunities now as Sinner rattles through a love hold.

The men's tournament in Melbourne has had few very close matches in the later stages, unlike the women's tournament which has been much more exciting. Let's see the women playing five sets too!

    Pete, Brixton

It is easy to see why Zverev has lost every major final he has been in. His body language is horrendous and there is no conviction to his shots at the net.

That's a huge second serve from Alexander Zverev and not even the world number one can do anything about it.

Jannik Sinner struggles on the next point too, lifting the return over the German and behind the baseline.

Another solid hold. He's not going anywhere just yet.

Alexander Zverev swerves a forehand around the net post, but even that's not enough as Jannik Sinner finishes the point at the net.

The Italian knows how close he is to getting his hands back on the Norman Brookes Challenge Cup and he wants it over and done with.

    An easy-peasy hold to love.

I don't think Alexander Zverev can see through this match.

He can't see where to go to get any joy. It's certainly not helpful that the absolute strength of his game, which is his backhand, isn't working for him.

Behind that, his forehand has been pretty awful today. It hasn't done any damage down the other end because it is spinning, it is short, it isn't penetrating the court and it's not hurting.

You look at all of that and think: 'How are you going to win this match?' I think that's what is going through his head too...

It's proving a tough night for Alexander Zverev's racquets.

The German's frustration is building as another Grand Slam final threatens to slip away.

Alexander Zverev leaves the door open for Jannik Sinner, finding the net to allow the Italian to pull his way back to 40-30.

But the serve is unstoppable on the next point. An important hold.

At the end of the first set, I asked you lot to hit thumbs for who you think would win this and the results, unsurprisingly, were definitely in favour of Jannik Sinner.

864 of you chose the defending champion, while there were 287 votes for Alexander Zverev.

Sinner wraps up a straightforward hold to get us under way in the third.

I think Zverev is probably realising that Sinner is playing the poorest tennis he has done in this whole tournament.

He needed to get that second set, particularly while Sinner was playing patchy tennis.

I mean, when your luck is out...

Zverev needs those net cords to go for him, not against him.

Even the Sinner fans have to admit that was cruel.

No wonder Zverev swishes his racquet after the next point and then cracks it against his bag at the end of the set.

The German second seed crashes one racquet against another in anger as he sees that second set slip through his fingers.

What a way to do it. Jannik Sinner seals the set at the first time of asking by landing a blistering forehand on the line with pinpoint precision.

He's even closer to defending his Australian Open crown now.
