When the roof is closed on Court One it sounds a little like a leisure centre inside here.

The cheers of the fans echo around loudly, the noise of the air conditioning gently hums in the background.

Emma Raducanu has not played here since the 2021 fourth round when she retired against Australia's Ajla Tomljanovic with breathing difficulties.

A lot has happened in the Brit's career since...

Raducanu recovers well from that tricky start, forcing Mertens long for 40-30 before the Belgian can only find the net with her backhand.

From 0-30 to a solid hold for the Brit.

Still on serve in the third set on court 12.

Dan Evans holds with relative ease, a welcome change for the world number 60, but 24th seed Alejandro Tabilo comes right back at him with a hold to love.

Evans just can't make any inroads on the Chilean's serve.

On Emma Raducanu teaming up with Andy Murray in the mixed doubles:

I think it will also relax her if she has a run in the singles and occasionally has a mixed doubles on her day off, because she would be coming to the club to train and focus purely on the singles match.

It’s very hard to imagine what it is like to be Emma Raducanu. Andy Murray we knew about for a long time.

Murray was very successful from the word ‘go’ but it was still a gradual build-up to winning that first Grand Slam title. But she wins the second Grand Slam she plays in at the US Open and therefore her development has been done in a strong public gaze.

It’s quite a lot to deal with for her. There are lots of advantages to being her, because she’s made a lot of money off the back of that, been awarded quite a lot of wildcards because of that stunning achievement in New York but the other side of it is the pressure that comes with it.

Certainly here at Wimbledon when you’re benefiting from wildcards, home support, from a nice friendly nice grass surface underneath your feet, people expect you to perform and lot of people won’t be aware of what you’re doing the rest of the year.

  11. Raducanu ready to 'put it on the line'published at 17:05 British Summer Time 3 July

Emma Raducanu has vowed to "put it on the line" on Wednesday when she faces Belgium's Elise Mertens in round two at Wimbledon.

Raducanu, 21, skipped the clay-court French Open to focus on being fit and ready for the British grass season and, so far, that decision looks to have paid dividends.

The Briton reached the semi-finals of the Nottingham Open and followed that with a run to the quarter-finals at Eastbourne, including a win over American world number five Jessica Pegula.

She was scheduled to begin her Wimbledon campaign against 22nd seed Ekaterina Alexandrova but the Russian withdrew on Monday morning.

Instead, Raducanu went up against lucky loser Renata Zarazua and, having struggled through the first set, really found her rhythm in the second to reach round two with a 7-6 (7-0) 6-3 victory on Centre Court.

Raducanu has appeared at six Grand Slam events since lifting the US Open title in 2021 but has not managed to go beyond the second round.

"Results-wise I have no expectations," said Raducanu, who has endured a tough couple of years with wrist and ankle injuries.

"I just have expectations of myself to really put myself on the line on the court and fight and not let any frustrations get to me."

Raducanu is last up on Court One on Wednesday against 2018 Australian Open semi-finalist Mertens.

    John Lloyd
Former GB Davis Cup captain on BBC TV

Emma [Raducanu] has come a long way. When she won the US Open she really wasn't ready for the rigours of the tour, it sort of came out of the blue.

She wins a major and physically she wasn't really ready, she hadn't played enough matches on tour.

It has taken her a bit of time to get used to that, with the injuries. She is in a happy place now so I think she can make a really charge up the rankings. She feels very comfortable with herself.

She has never lost faith in herself, I think some people have but I certainly haven't. I think she is going to be right up there with the big guns again.

She's so talented and mentally so tough and I think we are going to see a lot more from her and right at the top echelons of the game.

Emma Raducanu looks to continue her resurgence after progressing past the first round on Monday in an 'ugly' straight-set win over Renata Zarazua.

The 2021 US Open champion recorded her first victory over a top 10 opponent, Jessica Pegula, at Eastbourne and reached the semi-final at Nottingham in the build up to Wimbledon.

Forming a British dream team, Radacanu will team up with Andy Murray in the mixed doubles at Wimbledon.

Her second round singles opponent Elise Mertens happens to be the doubles world number one and claimed a Wimbledon doubles title in 2021.

In singles, Mertens is the Belgian number one and has reached as far in Wimbledon as Raducanu has, with fourth round appearances in 2019 and 2022.

    Raducanu v Mertens

A very relaxed looking Emma Raducanu is waiting in the wings to head out onto court one.

She has her headphones in and is just doing a couple of stretches while having a little laugh and joke with some of the staff.

As she eventually makes her way out there's a big smile on her face and she receives a warm applause and cries of "come on Emma!" from the court one crowd, which is not totally full just yet but I'm sure it will be soon.

The roof is on. No disruptions, just tennis.

Alexandre Muller has just served to stay in the tournament and now he has to do the same thing again. He thought he had a chance after a Medvedev double fault made it 30-30, but an ace followed and the Frenchman then went long with a forehand from deep.

    *Evans 2-6 5-7 2-3 Tabilo

Dan Evans comes through for another hard-fought hold.

It was all based around his skill at the net with three well-placed volleys and a neat drop shot before sealing the deal with an increasingly rare point won from the baseline.

That will boost Evans' confidence, the ease with which Alejandro Tabilo breezes through his subsequent service game - ending it with a gorgeous drop shot of his own - will not.
