    Abigail Johnson

There is pressure on Lamens to make that first serve and make it right.

She's 0-40 down in this service game...

    Swiatek 4-1 Lamens*

    Annabel Croft
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra and BBC Sounds

You can hear the feet of Swiatek in every rally. You can hear those little tiny steps as she's getting herself into the perfect position for a shot.

Credit to Lamens. She is holding up and I am admiring her attitude.

  3. Rublev breaks then holdspublished at 17:08 British Summer Time 28 August

    *Boyer 3-6 1-4 Rublev

Andrey Rublev breaks for for a second time in this set to win a third straight game and put himself in a strong position, before serving to love to go 4-1 up.

Mistakes are costing Tristan Boyer - if he doesn't do something soon this set will be over very shortly.

  4. Swiatek holdspublished at 17:08 British Summer Time 28 August

    Swiatek 4-1 Lamens*

A routine hold of serve for Iga Swiatek, who is closing in on winning the first set.

Suzan Lamens is extending rallies but hasn't looked like putting Swiatek under serious pressure yet.

  5. Lamens saves break points to holdpublished at 17:05 British Summer Time 28 August

    *Swiatek 3-1 Lamens

I've lost count of the number of times in recent years that Iga Swiatek has put away opponents in the early rounds of Grand Slams in double-quick time.

There are three double faults in this game by Suzan Lamens and you can't do that too often against a player of Swiatek's class and expect to get away with it.

But the number two seed hasn't got out of second gear yet and there's visible frustration from Swiatek as Lamens gets on the scoreboard.

  6. Postpublished at 17:01 British Summer Time 28 August

    *Boyer 3-6 1-2 Rublev

Andrey Rublev breaks straight back as Tristan Boyer double faults - his third of the match - on fourth break point.

Rublev then delivers two aces and two winners in the third game to take the lead. The Russian looks to be hitting his stride.

  7. Swiatek 'on top of her game'published at 16:57 British Summer Time 28 August

    Swiatek 3-0 Lamens*

    Annabel Croft
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra and BBC Sounds

So interesting to see Swiatek up close to the net but she is definitely adding it a little bit more all the time.

She has forced herself to go up there more and I think she has needed to add that to her game.

She is on top of her game at the moment.

  8. Swiatek saves break point to hold servepublished at 16:57 British Summer Time 28 August

    Swiatek 3-0 Lamens*

A few errors from Iga Swiatek mean she has to face a break point, but an unreturnable serve thwarts any hopes to Suzan Lamens breaking straight back.

  9. Swiatek is 'obsessed'published at 16:52 British Summer Time 28 August

    *Swiatek 2-0 Lamens

    Annabel Croft
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra and BBC Sounds

She is out of the block so quickly and we haven't seen for a long time as intense a player as Swiatek. She's obsessed.

  10. Boyer breakspublished at 16:52 British Summer Time 28 August

    *Boyer 3-6 1-0 Rublev

Tristan Boyer breaks serve to open the second set, much to the delight of his team and the partisan crowd.

Andrey Rublev will be frustrated to commit a few unforced errors minutes after wrapping up a fine first set.

  11. Early break for Swiatekpublished at 16:51 British Summer Time 28 August

    *Swiatek 2-0 Lamens

An unforced error from Suzan Lamens and a dominant rally from Iga Swiatek bring up two break points for the number two seed.

Lamens goes long with a backhand on the first of them and Swiatek gets the early break.

  12. 'Unfamiliar territory for Lamens'published at 16:48 British Summer Time 28 August

    Swiatek 1-0 Lamens*

    Abigail Johnson
Commentator on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra and BBC Sounds

It's going to be intriguing to see the opening of this match because it is unfamiliar territory for Lamens, who went from world number 207 to world number 88 last year. This is her first look at the biggest stadium in tennis.

  13. Swiatek holds in opening gamepublished at 16:48 British Summer Time 28 August

    Swiatek 1-0 Lamens*

Iga Swiatek loses the opening point but goes on to complete a service hold.

  14. Game and first set Rublevpublished at 16:45 British Summer Time 28 August

    Boyer 3-6 Rublev

Andrey Rublev breaks for a second time today to take the opening set in 33 minutes.

Tristan Boyer set the tone in the ninth game with a double fault, before two errors at deuce hand Rublev the set.

  15. Postpublished at 16:44 British Summer Time 28 August

Iga Swiatek, the 2022 US Open champion, will get things under way on Arthur Ashe Stadium.

  16. Postpublished at 16:42 British Summer Time 28 August

    Swiatek v Lamens

Iga Swiatek's opponent in the second round is world number 66 Suzan Lamens, who has made her singles breakthrough in the past 18 months or so.

The two are yet to face each other at Tour level and Lamens has not got further than the second round at any of the Grand Slams, making her first appearances at all four majors in 2025.

Dutch 26-year-old Lamens beat American qualifier Valerie Glozman 6-4 6-2 to ensure a winning singles debut in New York.

  17. Swiatek looks to continue fine summer formpublished at 16:40 British Summer Time 28 August

World number two Iga Swiatek is the most in-form player in the women's game at the moment and a dominant straight-set win against Emiliana Arango in the first round only emphasised that further.

The Pole - who won a maiden Wimbledon title last month - took just 61 minutes to get through her match with the Colombian. She dropped just three games and looked at ease, having come into the US Open off the back of a win at the Cincinnati Open.

Swiatek hit 26 winners to world number 84 Arango's five and won 76% of her points on serve without facing a break point.

Afterwards she said: "It felt great - first matches are not easy to get used to the rhythm and it was a solid match."

  18. Rublev leads Boyerpublished at 16:37 British Summer Time 28 August

    Boyer 3-4 Rublev*

We'll also be bringing you updates from the second-round match between American hopeful Tristan Boyer and world number 15 Andrey Rublev, who is looking to win a first career Grand Slam.

Rublev currently leads in the first set, after breaking his Californian opponent in game five.
